• The negative for the present continuous tense is formed by
placing not after the form of to be.

• I’m not driving to work.


• He’s not going with us.
• We are not waiting for him.

• Note : the contracted forms isn’t and aren’t. There is no


contraction for am not.

• Example :
• He isn’t going with us.
• We aren’t waiting for him.

• Forms such as you aren’t and he isn’t can be used freely


as alternatives to the forms you’re not, he’s not etc.
Which were presented earlier.

• We’re not cold = we aren’t cold.


• He’s not working = he isn’t working.
Excercise 1
• Change these sentences to the negative. Use the
contracted forms isn’t and aren’t when possible.
