Objectives:
• After the discussion the students will be able to
understand the pitch and tone
• Also, they will able to know the significance
of learning pitch and tone in a language
Pitch
-the relative highness or lowness
frequency of a sound
-pitch are sounds that languages use to
convey meaning
What is
FREQUENCY?
FREQUENCY?
• It is the number of cycle (a single to-and-
fro movement of an air particle) that occur
in a second.
• measured by unit Hz(Herzt) after the name
of Heinrich Rudolf ,a German physicist.
Here is one example of language that distinguish a word form
another by it's pitch
Tone
• Tone is the variation of pitch of the voice while speaking
• It uses pitch to change the lexical meaning of a word
• refers to the use of pitch to convey meaning at the word
level.

2.)Contour Tone
• The pitch changes during the course of
the syllable
