Aspects of Culture

What is CULTURE?
• It is defined as the custom beliefs, social forms, and traits
that defines a specific racial, religious, or social group.
• Culture is a word for the “way of life” of groups of
people, meaning the way they do things. Different groups
may have different cultures. A culture is passed on to the
next generation by learning, whereas genetics are passed
on by heredity.
Different Aspects of
Culture
1. Social organization
• Refers to the network of relationships in a group
and how they interconnect. This network of
relationships helps members of a group stay
connected to one another in order to maintain a
sense of community within a group. The social
organization of a group is influenced
by culture and other factors.
2. Customs and Traditions
• A custom (also called a tradition) is a common
way of doing things. It is something that many
people do, and have done for a long time. Usually,
the people come from the same country, culture,
or religion.
• The main difference between
custom and tradition lies in the length of time
associated with them. A custom is a commonly
accepted manner of behaving or doing something in
a particular society, place or time. A tradition is the
transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to
generation.
3. Religion
• Religion is a cultural system of designated
behaviors and practices, morals, worldviews, texts,
sanctified places, prophecies, ethics, or
organizations, that relates humanity to supernatural,
transcendental, or spiritual elements.
4. Language
• Language and culture are intertwined. You cannot
understand one's culture without accessing
its language directly. When you learn a
new language, it not only involves learning its
alphabet, the word arrangement and the rules of
grammar, but also learning about the specific
society's customs and behavior.
5. Arts and Literature
• The arts are a vast subdivision of culture, composed
of many creative endeavors and disciplines. The arts
encompasses visual arts, literary arts and
the performing arts: music, theatre, dance, spoken
word, and film.
• Literature is the art of written works
6. Forms of Government
• Government is necessary to ensure the proper use of
force. For this reason, it must specify objective laws to
clarify the use of force, and it must have the ability to
enforce these laws. The purpose of government is to
protect the individual rights of its citizens.
7. Economic System
• An economic system refers to the manner in
which a culture produces and distributes its
goods and services. It refers to the conditions
under which a cultural group makes use of
the capabilities of its individuals and the
environment to derive some benefits.
