Victorino harvested
some ears of sweet
corn for boiling.
He put them in
small sacks of 10
pieces per sack.
Let us count them.

There are 6 sacks
There are 10 pieces of sweet corn in
each sack.
There are 6 sacks of ten or 6 tens.
To find the value of 6 tens, we simply skip
count by 10s, six times.
10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60
The value of 6 tens is 60.
We write 60 in a place value chart like this:

60 means 6 tens and 0 ones or 60 + 0.


Panfilo harvested

He got 7 sacks with
10 pieces per sack.

more pieces of

There are 7 sacks.
Each sack has 10 pieces of sweetcorn.
There are also 4 more ears of
sweetcorn.
There are 7 tens and 4 ones.
To find the value of 4 ones, simply count the
individual pieces: 1, 2, 3, 4.
The value of 7 tens is 70. The value of 4 ones
is 4.
We put them together, 70 + 4 = 74.
We write 74 in a place value chart like this:

the digits in their respective place values
as follows:
