lamp upon my feet

and the light that
shines my way//
The term ‘Revelation’
- from Latin word ‘revelatio’ or
‘revelare’ which means
… to unveil
… to uncover

( apocalypse ) --- “ uncovering” or
“ disclosure”
WHAT IS REVELATION?
(Over-all Description)

• It is the foundation of all

Christian life and theology.
• It is an ACT OF GOD, a
gratuitous act… done in
freedom and love.
• “It is God’s personal loving
communication to us of
who He is and His plan to
save us all in His love.”

Person and His desire.

known to us.

( The WHY of revelation)

• OUT OF HIS ABUNDANT

LOVE
PURPOSE
• To invite us and to receive us into
fellowship with Himself, thereby having a
share of His divine nature.
• Union with God
• To be with God always
FAITH: OUR RESPONSE TO
GOD’S REVELATION
• RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
REVELATION AND FAITH
-By His Revelation, “the invisible
God, from the fullness of love
addresses men as his friends
and moves among them, in
order to invite and receive them
into his own company.” (CCC,
142)
• The adequate response to this
is FAITH. (CCC, 142)
• Therefore, Revelation and Faith
is inseparable.
ETYMOLOGICAL DEFINITION
• From Latin fides "trust, confidence,
reliance, credence, belief," from root of

WHAT IS REALLY FAITH,
THEN?
• It is not just a natural faith nor religious
faith but rather a Christian Faith.
• Therefore, we must know who we believe
in. It is to believe in God alone, to believe
in Jesus Christ and to believe in the Holy
Spirit.(CCC, 150-152)
WHAT IS REALLY FAITH,
THEN?
• It is a supernatural virtue, whereby, inspired
and assisted by the grace of God, we believe
that what He has revealed is true, not
because the intrinsic truth of things is
recognized by the natural light of reason, but
because of the authority of God Himself who
reveals them, who can neither err nor
deceive.
• Faith is grace, Faith is human act and
Faith is certain.
FAITH IS GRACE
• It is a gift of God, a supernatural
virtue infused by him. Before
this faith can be exercised, man
and woman must have the
grace of God to move and assist
him; he or she must have the
interior helps of the Holy Spirit,
who moves the heart and
converts it to God, who opens
the eyes of the mind and makes
it easy for all to accept and
believe the truth. CCC. 153, DV
5) #4
FAITH IS HUMAN ACT
• It is no less true that
believing is an
authentically human act.
(CCC, 154)
• In faith, the human
intellect and will cooperate
with divine grace. (CCC,
155)
FAITH IS CERTAIN
• It is more certain than all human
knowledge because it is founded on the
very word of God who cannot lie. (CCC,
157)
WHAT IS REALLY FAITH,
THEN?
• It is the assurance of things hoped for, the
conviction of things not seen. (Heb 11:1)
• It is Abraham who fulfills this definition of
faith.
THE OBEDIENCE OF FAITH
• To obey (from the Latin ob-
audire, “to hear or listen to”) in
faith is to submit freely to the
word that has been heard,
because it is guaranteed by
God, who is Truth itself. (CCC,
144)
• Abraham is the model of such
obedience and Virgin Mary as
its most perfect embodiment.
