Background of the Study
The birth of corona virus that later became the COVID-19
pandemic prompt the world to practice social distancing and
community quarantine. As this scenario prolonged, various
factors were affected most especially, education. As a third
world country, not all Filipino citizens can afford to buy
gadget and have access to internet connections as most part
of the Philippines is still considered marginalized.
According to Abad, (2020) the data gathered from the latest
survey of Social Weather Stations (SWS) on the quarter of
2019, which highlighted that 54% of Filipino families
considered themselves poor.
Background of the Study
Futhermore, Aligam et al. (2020) on their study, the
psychological impact of COVID-19 pandemic highlighted
that students and those with poor self-reported health status
has higher levels of stress, anxiety, and depression
symptoms.

With these being said, the researchers opted to conduct a


study that will focus on the Learning Practices, Challenges,
and Coping Strategies of BEED students at Catanduanes
State University under the new normal.
Statement of the Problem
This study determined the learning practices, challenges and coping
strategies of freshmen BEED students at Catanduanes State University
under the new normal, which would be helpful in teaching and learning
process.

Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:

1. What are the learning practices of the Freshmen BEED


students under the new normal?

2. What are the challenges faces of the Freshmen BEED


students under the new normal?

3. What are the coping strategies of Freshmen BEED students


under the new normal?
Definition of Terms

Learning Practices – are evidence-based teaching strategies


implemented with fidelity and informed through data to produce
positive, sustained results in every student (“Effective Teaching”,
n.d.)
Coping Strategies - refer to the specific efforts, both behavioral and
psychological, that people employ to master, tolerate, reduce, or
minimize stressful events (Al-Dubai et al. (n.d)
New Normal – New way of living and going about our lives, work
and interactions with other people (Y. L. M., 2020)
Conceptual Paradigm
Figure shows the Conceptual Framework of the study which indicates that the

Chapter 3
Research Design
The study used the descriptive method of research with questionnaire as the main data
collection instrument in determining the learning practices, challenges and coping strategies
of the Bachelor of Elementary Education freshmen at the Catanduanes State University.

Sources of Data
The primary source of data in this study is the Bachelor of Elementary Education freshmen
at the Catanduanes State University enrolled in the Academic Year 2020-2021. There were
forty-two (42) total respondents.

Sampling Procedure
The research used the total population sampling wherein all the Bachelor of
Elementary Education freshmen of Academic Year 2020-2021 were involved in the
study

Instrumentation and Validation


For this study, the researchers constructed a questionnaire as the main tool for data-
gathering. The questionnaires were consisted of (2) parts. Part one (1) is on
personal data of the respondents. Part two (2) contains ten questions.
Chapter 3

Data Gathering Procedure


After the validation of the instrument, the researchers sought approval to administer the
questionnaires to gather the desired data. Upon approval, the researchers explained the
purpose of the study to the respondents. The researchers administered the questionnaire
directly to the chosen sample of the study and the respondents have given enough time in
answering it. Questionnaires were completely retrieved.

Statistical Treatment of Data/Analysis of Data


Content Analysis was used to analyze the data gathered from the survey.
