of 14 km and many cases have been reported
where lives have been lost due to the distance and

Influence of Healing Environments and Biophilia in Health Care Facilities

• A healing environment is defined as one that has a nurturing and therapeutic effect. Studies show that
well-designed hospital environments can reduce patients’ anxiety and stress, accelerate recovery, shorten
hospitalizations, reduce medication use, lessen pain, and promote a sense of well-being.

• Biophilic design is an approach to architecture that seeks to connect building occupants more closely to
nature. Biophilic designed buildings incorporate things like natural lighting and ventilation, natural
landscape features and other elements for creating a more productive and healthy built environment for
people.
