BASIC LIFE SUPPORT
Basic Life Support is an act of handling that done as soon as
possible and aims to stop the process towards death.

• EMS’s assistance – Yes / No


RESPONSE

•Tap and shout. Is there any response? Look at


the person’s chest and face. Is the person
breathing normally? (in less than 10 minutes).
SEND SOMEONE TO CALL FOR
HELP

 Send someone to call and tell him to come


back.
 The caller should give dispatch the patient’s
location, what happened, how many people are
injured, and what is being done.
CIRCULATION
• Check for the pulse in no more 10 seconds:
• If the pulse present but no breathing, start rescue
breathing. Reassess pulse every 2 minutes.
• If unsure a pulse is exist >>> start chest compression
 Do not waste more critical time searching for a pulse
CHEST AND COMPRESSION
• Place the heel of one hand in the
centre of the chest
• Place other hand on top
• Interlock fingers
• Compress the chest
– Rate 100 -120min-1
– Depth 5 cm
– Equal compression : relaxation
• When possible change CPR
operator every 2 min

Only stop when:

•Professional help takes over


•You are exhausted
•The victim starts breathing normally
DEFIBRILLATION
 Early defibrillation is very critical, especially
in cardiac arrest.
 The sooner you provide defibrillation with
the AED, the better the victim's chances of
survival.

RECOVERY POSITION

This position helps a


semiconscious or unconscious
person prevent the tongue
falling back and block the
airway. It also help them to
breathe and permits fluids to
drain from the nose and throat
so they are not breathed in

Do not use the recovery position if the person has a major injury, such as a
back or neck injury
