BEHAVIOUR
OB
Basic concept and definition of Organizational Behavior
Organization behavior is the study and application of knowledge about how
people-as individuals and as groups act within organizations it strives to identify
ways in which people can act more effectively.
Organizational behavior is a scientific discipline in which a large number of research
studies and conceptual developments are constantly adding to its knowledge base. It
is also an applied science, in that information about effective practices in one
organization is being extended to many others.
OB
Organizational Behavior:- is the study of human behavior, attitudes, and
performance with in the organizational setting; drawing on theory, methods, and
principles from such disciplines as psychology, sociology, and cultural anthropology
to learn about individual perceptions, values, learning capacities, and actions while
working in groups and with in the total organization; analyzing the external
environment’s effect on the organization and its human resources, missions,
objectives, and strategies.
Organizational Behavior: - is a field of study that investigates the impact that
individuals, groups, and structure have on behavior within organizations for the
purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organization’s
effectiveness.
Organizational Behavior: - is an interdisciplinary field dedicated to better
understanding and managing people at work.

Goals
Most sciences share four goals-to describe, understand, predict, and control some
phenomena. Organization behavior also embraces these goals the first objective is to
describe, systematically, how people behave under a variety of conditions.
A second goal is to understand why people behave as they do. Mangers would be
highly frustrated if they could only talk about behaviors of their employees, but not
understand the reasons behind those actions. Therefore inquisitive mangers learn to
probe for underlying explanations.
Predicting future employee behavior is anther goal of organization behavior. Ideally
mangers would have the capacity to predict which employees might be dedicated
and productive or which employees might be absent tardy, or disruptive on a certain
day (so that mangers could taken preventive actions).
OB
The final goal of organizational behavior is to control (at least partially) and develop
some human activity at work. Since mangers are held responsible for performance
outcomes, they are vitally interested in being able to make an impact on employee
behavior, skill development, team effort, and productivity.

Forces

A complex set of forces affects the nature of organizations today. A wide array of
issues an trends in these forces can be classified into four areas-people, structure,
technology, and the environment in which the organization operates when people
work together in an organization to accomplish an object some kind of structure of
formal relationships is required.

CHARACTERSTICIES OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
FIELD.
One major strength of organization behavior is its interdisciplinary nature it
integrates the behavior sciences (the systematic body of knowledge pertaining to
why and how people behave as they do) with other social sciences that can
contribute to the subject.
Another strength of organization behavior is its emerging base of research
knowledge and conceptual frameworks. The field of organizational behavior has
grown in depth and breadth, and it will continue to mature.
Research is the process of gathering and interpreting relevant evidence that will
either support a behavioral theory or help change it.
