What is Facility layout design??

Facility layout design it is the arrangement of everything within a facility

departments, workgroups, machines and etc..,
The goal is to ensure a smooth and efficient work.
LINE LAYOUT
•  Designing the
presentation of
workstations in an
assembly and
showing the flow of
work from start to
end. It can be a
simple line diagram
FUNCTIONAL LAYOUT
• Organizing
production which
involves grouping
together equipment,
machinery and
personnel according to
the function which they
perform in the
production process, for
example drilling,
grinding and assembly.
FIXED POSITION LAYOUT

•  Location layout of a plant. It is one

of the major and most commonly
utilized means of arrangement
within manufacturing plants. This
layout involves the active
movement, from one point to the
other of the machine and
manpower within the plant.
However, the product from the
process stays stationary.
CELLULAR TECHNOLOGY LAYOUT
• Cellular lay out a
facility layout where machines
are arranged in a work center in
the general order that they are
required to produce families of
parts or one product family. Also
called product- process layout
Example: EVERY CELL CONTAINS
A GROUP OF MACHINES WHICH
ARE DEDICATED TO THE
PRODUCTION OF A FAMILY OF
PARTS. • ONE OF THE PROBLEMS
IS TO IDENTIFY A FAMILY PARTS
THAT REQUIRE THE SAME GROUP
OF MACHINES.
COMBINED LAYOUT
• A combination layout is possible
where an item is being made in
different types and sizes. In such
cases machinery is arranged in a
process layout but the process
grouping (a group of number of
similar machines) is then arranged
in a sequence to manufacture
various types and sizes of products.
Example: In such cases machinery is
arranged in a process layout but the
process grouping (a group of number
of similar machines) is then arranged
in a sequence to manufacture various
types and sizes of products.
Computerized Relative Allocation of Facility
Technique

• Computerized Relative Allocation

of Facilities Technique (CRAFT) is
a tool that used to help improve
the existing layout of the facilities.
The facility is improved by swaping
two or more departments to help
arrange the facility to an optimal
floor plan.
