trumpeter who
has been awarded
as the NEA Jazz

the highest honor
in jazz.
Charlie Parker
(1920-1955) is one of the
most important figures in
jazz music who earned
recognition as a jazz
saxophonist and a
composer. He was
instrumental in the
development of bebop, a
form of jazz characterized
by a fast tempo, virtuoso
technique and
improvisation.
Sarah Vaughan
(1924-1990) was an
excellent pianist and
a gifted singer who
held the three-time
Grammy Award
winner. She also
received the NEA
Jazz Masters Award.
