What is motivation? – To put it in straightforward manner motivation is something that keeps all
of us moving. It prevents us from getting stuck or becoming stagnant. The concept of motivation
seems a fairly simple but extensive research has developed a multi-layered literature on the
concept of motivation. Different researchers have different perspectives on the concept.

There is a famous saying, ‘Once a learner, always a learner.’ It is inherent human nature to
keep progressing and developing. Naturally all our conscious actions have some or the other
motivation. It is the driving force that channels human behavior. To put it in other words
motivation is the inner energy that drives a person to achieve their targets and aims in life.

There are many types of motivation, they are:

1. Reward/incentive – based motivation.
2. Fear – based motivation.
3. Achievement – based motivation.
4. Power – based motivation.
5. Affiliation motivation.
6. Competence motivation.
7. Attitude motivation
8. Intrinsic motivation
9. Extrinsic motivation.
