Summary
A sad childhood is portrayed in the story where the child loses his
father at a young age. His mother marries again and his step father
gives the little child a very hard time. After being frustrated by his
father, little David one day bites him. The result is that soon he lands
into a hostel where he also faces a hard time but makes two friends-
James and Tommy. When he returns home during vacations he comes
to know that his mother has given birth to a baby boy. Soon both his
mother and the baby boy dies and David is left alone to face the
torture of his father and is sent to a factory to work. David runs away
from London to Dover and meets, Aunt Betsey. He is  renamed as
Trotwood Copperfield and is addressed as Trot everywhere. As he
grows up many of his loved ones also leave him alone by kissing death
including his Aunt Betsey. This makes him a mature and well to do
individual. But life takes a much harder lesson after he gets married to
Dora Spenlow because she dies facing the pain of her miscarriage
early in their marriage. Later David marries the beautiful and sensible
Agnes and lives a beautiful life with her and their three children. He
also names his daughter after his late aunt Betsey to show how much
he loved her and how much he still misses her.
My favourite Charact
ers
David Copperfield – He is the novel's narrator and
protagonist. David's father, David Sr, dies six months
before he is born, and he is raised by his mother
and nursemaid Peggotty until his mother
remarries. Mr Murdstone, David's stepfather,
sends david to a boarding school. On his ninth
birthday, David discovers that his mother has died
while he is at school. He is appointed to work in a
factory until he escapes to find his aunt. In the
novel, David Copperfield is described as
trustworthy, goal-oriented, yet still immature.
He had two wives: Dora Spenlow and Agnes
Wickfield.
Recommendation
I consider it amazing and intriguing that Dickens was
able to expertly integrate his terrible experiences in
his teen years with his unlimited imagination. This
work, which has always been praised by a large
number of critics, is, in my opinion, a strong
indicator of Dickens' skill. The way he depicts young
love is incredibly remarkable, and I believe he is
genuinely insightful in describing what most people
do to stay devoted to the person they love. I hope
you had just as much fun reading it as I did!
