Introduction
• What is advertising?
• Advertising is basically a marketing tool for promotion of products and services in exchange of
money. The actual promotional messages are called advertisements, or ads for short. The goal of
advertising is to reach the target audience that would be most likely to be willing to pay for the
products or services and entice them to buy.
• Advertising and Society
• Advertising is there for creating awareness about any products or services in society. It has helped
the consumers to have knowledge about the service or the product before buying them.
• 3. Advertising has an effect on the economic stability of the society. The impact of ads on the
society creates their desire to purchase. This in turn will increase the sales of the company which
adds up to benefit the economics of the country.
The role of advertising in society
• The mere mention of the word "advertising" evokes a moment surge of negative emotions in people that see
it as how for marketers to force them into buying something they don't need.
• For many years, advertising has straddled the road between good and evil, having been both the means of
spreading the word about life-changing innovations and a convenient way for charlatans to hook their
unsuspecting prey. The role of advertising has evolved over the years, but its mark on society is obvious .
Advertising to Children
• One concern many of us have about advertising's role in society is that the way the industry advertises
products to children. From at least the early days of television, toy and cereal manufacturers quickly realized
they had a captive target market during Saturday morning cartoon shows. Children often watched these
shows while their parents slept or completed chores , a rapt audience too young to know the difference
between advertising simulations and real world . What a disappointment when the dolls and trucks didn’t
actually advance their own once they were within the child’s home. Children today also are bombarded with
ads through the web , whether on computers, phones or other electronic devices. Many have their own
social media accounts, like Facebook, where pop-up ads are prevalent. Now, ads can even be targeted to
users supported their browsing history. Though today's children are certainly smart about technology,
they're still too young to actually understand that ads might not have their best interests in mind.
Bringing Causes to Light

• On the other hand, advertising's wide reach also successfully brings attention to social issues, health and
diseases. Some of the foremost creative and memorable ads have highlighted the plight of individuals with
disabilities, the homeless and abused or neglected children; health issues like smoking, substance abuse and
alcoholism; and pleas against drinking and driving, texting while driving, riding without employing a safety
belt and more.
The effects of advertising
•To achieve the foremost benefits to society, advertisers should:
•Be truthful in their claims.
•Try more to say the price of their products than to level competitors' products.
•Exercise care and caution in advertising to children.
•Use their platform for public service announcements to promote healthy practices and discourage unhealthy
and hurtful actions.
•Businesses are there to make value, be profitable, reward shareholders and reinvest in the company.
Advertising enables them to do that. If one advertises morally and contribute time, money and materials to
help their communities and society in general, they're fulfilling a sensible role in society.
Conclusion

•Today, Advertising is an important industry. As it contributes to the economy by creating the jobs for producing
ad messages and also as it promotes demand and provides information about other products and services.
•Advertising creates perception and motivates people to change their opinions or deeds. The same rules that
advertisers use to try to sell phones and clothes apply to conservation. Prosocial messages can considerably
impact customers’ daily lives in positive ways. In recent times, we see a huge emphasis on green messages;
these can help to stir up the world to take action in order to save the environment.
