INTRODUCTION
 Pervious concrete is a special
type of concrete with a high
porosity used for concrete flat
work applications

 Pervious concrete allows the

water to percolate through the
concrete in to the sub-base &
recharge the ground water level .
HISTORY OF PERVIOUS CONCRETE
 Pervious concrete was first used in 1852.

 Pervious concrete has been employed in

European countries since the 19th century.

 Pervious concrete can be successfully used in

INDIA.
MATERIALS
 Pervious concrete mainly consists of
 Ordinary Portland cement

 Coarse aggregates(19mm-9.5mm)
 Water(free from salts & impurities)

 Supplementary cementinious
materials(SCM)such as fly ash , pozzolona &
blast furnace slag are also used
MIX-PROPORTION
material
The national ready-mix concrete Kg/m3
cement 356
Coarse aggregates 1543
water 95
admixtures percentage
Fly ash(or) 25%
slag 50%
APPLICATIONS

The various applications of

pervious concrete are as
follows
 Residential roads , driveways

 Low volume pavements

 Flat works

 Court yards

 Drainage areas

 Parking areas
ADVANTAGES
 Recharge the ground
water level
 Reduce the risk of
flooding &
hydroplaning
 Requires less costly
repairs than black top
 Longer service life &
lower life cycle cost
than asphalt
DIS-ADVANTAGES
 Difficult in providing the reinforcement
 Frequent maintenance is required

 Compressive strength is comparatively less

 Require more time & experimental works for the
construction
 It can not be used for the construction of
bridges , buildings , dams & so on
CONCLUSION
 The pervious concreter is used to reduce the
floods
 The pervious concrete cant used for the
construction of buildings , dams , bridges because
of low strength
 Pervious concrete is used to recharge the ground
water level
