WHAT IS
POVERTY ?  A condition or state in which a person or a community
lacks the financial resources and essentials for a
minimum standard of living is known as Poverty.

 Poverty means that the income level from employment is


so low that basic human needs can't be met.
CONDITION
OF POORS
 Although India is a developing nation , poverty is still a major
concern . According to 2011 census , around 28 crore people (out
of 130 crore ) live below poverty line .
 Surprisingly, out of every 6th poor of the world , one belong to
India .

Dharavi (Mumbai) is the largest slum of Asia.


• Poverty level is very
high in states like
Uttar Pradesh, Bihar ,
POVERTY Jharkhand ,
Chhattisgarh , Odisha
RATE and Madhya Pradesh .
• Bihar and Odisa are
the poorest states of
India .
 Anti-Poverty measures means removal of
poverty . The current anti – poverty measures
are :-
ANTI- 1. Promotion of economic growth .
POVERTY 2. Targeted new anti – poverty programmes .
MEASURES
Now let’s look at AAY , one of the poverty
alleviation programme.

 The main objective of the scheme is to ensure food
security and to create hunger-free India.
 AAY scheme covers the poorest of the poor in India by
MAIN supply of food and other important commodities for their
daily needs on subsidized rates.
OBJECTIVES  Under AAY scheme wheat will be provided for Rs.3 per Kg
and Rice will be given for Rs.2 per Kg. Eligible family will
get 35 Kg of rice per month.AAY families can buy 1 kg of
sugar at a rate for Rs.18.50 per Kg .
