SPORTS COMPLEX
 Sports Complex is a venue for watching and learning
sports.
 Sports in a modern year, no longer is limited to the
participants only, but side by side spectators are given
equal importance to those of players
 facilities and proper arrangement for both the players
and viewers are needed in a sports arena
HISTORY OF SPORTS COMPLEX
 History of sport is probably as old as the existence of
people as purposive being
 In the west it was the Greeks who built the first
permanent architectural structures and spaces to
support mass viewing of sporting events
 Sports complex saw a revival after the industrial
revolution in nineteenth century

DASARATH SPORTS COMPLEX
 Location = Tripureswore, Kathmandu
 Area = 110 ropani
 Dasarath Stadium incorporates four major arenas
 The main stadium
 The covered hall
 The swimming pool
 Tennis courts.

 first biggest complex in Nepal with 20,000 spectator
capacity football stadium
 was constructed in 2026B.S
 football stadium was designed by Er. Bhuwaneshwor
Lal Shrestha and the covered hall, swimming
complex and the tennis courts were designed by Ar.
Ganga Dhar Bhatta
MAIN STADIUM
 Football stadium with the provision of track and field
events and the orientation of the stadium is north- south
axis
 parapet on the northern side lies on the natural slope site
and All the rest sides are two storied.
 The western parapet, considered as the V.I.P. parapet, has
the cantilever slab as a covering over it and the rest of the
parapet are open and has no covering over them.
 Parking space is not according to the capacity of the
stadium. The spaces provided for parking is sufficient for
players and government services only.
MAIN STADIUM
 Stadium is of two storey height. The space under seating
area includes various indoor sports hall, administrative
area, etc
 Under V.I.P. seating area – Taekwondo hall, V.I.P. lounge,
office room, Sitoriyo karate hall, Judo hall, Referee/
Judges changing room and physical fitness center.
 Under Eastern and Western seating area –
administrative offices, sports hall, Medical hall.
 As all these room under the seating are not designed for
particular purpose, facilities are adjusted later on.

THE COVERED HALL
 It includes
 Multi purpose hall
 Admin block of nepal sports council.
 located at the north – east of the stadium complex
 plan of the hall is simple and symmetrical. It contains
indoor hall and designed by Ar. Ganga Dhar Bhatta of
wooden floor ( 25 x 35 sq.m.) for a multipurpose event
 indoor hall consists of a basketball, volleyball and 3
badminton courts and also used for martial art tournament.
 general stand has a capacity of housing 1000 spectators
which is not sufficient for the international competition.
THE COVERED HALL
 the access for the players and spectator has been clearly
separated. Players enter directly from the ground floor,
whereas the main access to the parapet for V.V.I.P. and
other spectator is from first floor. However, the V.V.I.P./
V.I.P. enter through the administration block in front of
the covered hall
 Player’s room are below southern parapet. Other
necessary room such as umpire room, first aid room,
electronic room and weight and fitness room are below
the northern parapet. For the trainees there isn’t space
as changing room.
THE COVERED HALL
 The stands for general spectator is aligned along the
longitudinal axis so it provides a good view of the events
 Ribbon windows are provided on the longitudinal wall of
the hall, but they are mostly covered because of glare
 The source of natural lighting is through the transparent
sheets used on roof
 The hall is RCC frame structure with main columns of 18”
x 18”. However, the exterior columns are of 9” x 15”. Certain
portion have load bearing wall of 18”. Beam size is 18” x 24”.
Two heavy truss support the roof covering over the huge
span.

 outdoor swimming pool is located at the eastern part of
the complex
 swimming pool is of international size 25m x 50m with
seating parapet on western side of about 500 spectators
capacity
 There are eight halogen lights of 500w which is sufficient
to light up the pool. For deck area, ordinary tube lights has
been provided
 Sand filter has been provided for the filtration . Filtration
is done every day for 8hrs-4hrs in morning and 4hrs in
evening. Filter is housed in 9x9x9 m room

THE TENNIS COURT
 tennis court are located at the south – east corner of
the complex
 orientation is along the north- south axis
 There are three clay courts with 3m clearance around
the court
 provision of parapet on western part of about 300
spectator’s capacity, which is not enough for
international matches
 orientation of the parapet is facing east so the heavy
west sun is at the back of the spectators
