Faithful Amplification and Amplifier
 The Process of adding strength to the input signal without changing its shape is known as faithful

amplification.

 The circuit which amplifies an input signal is called as an amplifier.

 Applications

 TV
 Radio
 PA System
 Instrumentation System

Block Diagram of Amplifier

Vs : Signal voltage
Rs : Internal resistance of signal source
Is : Signal current
R : Load Resistor
Vo : Amplified output voltage

Transistor as a current amplifier

In CE configuration,
IC=ꞵ IB ------------------(1)
IC- Collector current
IB - Base current

In CC configuration,
IE=(1+ꞵ) IB ---------------(2)
∵ ꞵ is very large
∴ IE is large
In CB Configuration ,
Ic= αIE --------------------------------(3)
∵ α is less than unity
CB configuration is not used for current amplification

Voltage Amplifier and Phase reversal

By applying KVL to outer loop,

VCE=VCC – ICRC
When Signal voltage increases in positive direction
∵VCC is constant
∴ VCE increases in negative direction
∴ VCE and signal voltage are out of phase with
each other
