Public Law 94-142
• The Education for All Handicapped Children Act.

- Congressed passed the Act in 1975, The Act extended greater


educational opportunities to children with disabilities.

- The public law gaurentees a free appropriate public education to each


child with a disabilty

Education Act
• IDEA was the renamed of PL 94-142 and extended the availability of a
free, appropriate education to youth with special needs between 3 year
old's and 21.
- It is one of the most important educational legislation passed in
America.
- They focus on public schools access for students with special needs to
emphasize educational outcomes.
- Also requires all children with special needs be educated in the least
restrictive environment.
IEP / Participants
• Individualized Education Program (IEP)
- A Plan for meeting an exceptional learner’s educational needs,
specifying goals, objectives, services, and procedures for evaluating
progress.
- The IEP must be reviewed annually by five parties
The parent or guardian, the child, the teacher, a professional who
recently evaluated the child, and usually the principal or a special
education resource person from the school district

programming and services for students with
specialized needs, ages 3 – 22.

Helen J. Stewart
Mission - Providing students with learning activities to
develop daily living, vocational, communication, social,
and functional academic skills. They believe the use of a
comprehensive Community-Based- Instruction program is
essential to the generalization of these skills.
Vision - All students can develop the skills necessary to
become participating member of their communities.
Serving Students with significant intellectual disabilities
and other secondary disabilities from ages 6 –22
Population – 141 enrolled 72% Minority
Grades: PK-12
Miley Achievement Center
Mission - To educate students emotionally, behaviorally, and academically. This year they will be their year three of
strategic plan where they will continue to implement positive behavior intervention and support systems, increase student
engagement and academic success through web based, digitally integrative curriculum, and deliver explicit instruction in
social emotional and vocational skills to prepare the students for a successful transition into the community.
Population – 70 enrolled Grade: 6-13
Variety
Mission- To provide a positive and safe learning
community that fosters academic and vocational
growth. Their commitment is to ensure a least
restrictive environment, through campus-wide
positive behavioral intervention supports, allows all
students the opportunity to be ready by exit.
The goal is that all students will be able to transition
to post-secondary education, the workforce, and
independent living to make each a productive
member of society.
Population- 56 enrolled grades 6-12
65% Minority
98% are economically disadvantaged.
Homebound
• Provides instruction to CCSD students medically unable to attend
school, they do online instruction or at home depending on the need.
• They adapt instruction to meet students unique medial needs.

An educational program that meets a disabled students special needs in a manner that is identical, to the
extent possible, to that provided to students in general education classrooms.
In federal law that students with disabilities receive their education.
In other words meaning, that students with disabilities must be educated with their nondisabled peers.
