An Overview
• Introduction:
Organizational management is inevitably and
necessarily a management of people. The task of
managing people require making sense of the way
they think, act and feel not only in the individual
level but in the overall organizational context.
This is to say that understanding human
behavior in the organization is critical to the
achievement of its goals and its long term success.
Understanding human behavior in
organizations in an on-going process. People’s
behavior in organizations exhibits certain
patterns either collectively or individually.
Identifying and recognizing these patterns is a
key to proper response and critical to effective
management.
• Terms and Concepts:
1. Human Behavior – refers to the way humans act and
interact. It is based on and influenced by several factors, such
as genetic make-up, culture and individual values and
attitudes.
2. Organization – is a group of people who work together –
like a neighborhood association, a charity, a union, or a
corporation. – sharing the same interests and goals and
working together toward the attainment of these interests
and goals.
3. Organizational Behavior – is the study of both
group and individual performance and activity within
an organization. This area of study examines human
behavior in a work environment and determines its
impact on job structure, performance,
communication, motivation and leadership.
In a nutshell, OB (organizational behavior) is
the study of how human behavior affects an
organization.
Importance of HBO:
To know how people, as individuals and as groups, act within organizations.
