Pie
A pie is a baked dish which is
usually made of a
pastry dough casing that
contains a filling of various
sweet or savoury ingredients.
Sweet pies may be filled with
fruit, nuts, brown
sugar, sweetened vegetables,
or with thicker fillings based
on eggs and dairy.
History of Pie
Pie has been around since
the ancient Egyptians. The
first pies were made by early
Romans who may have
learned about it through the
Greeks. These pies were
sometimes made in
"reeds" which were used for
the sole purpose of holding
the filling and not for eating
with the filling.
Types of Pie
Cream Pie
is a type of pie filled with a
rich custard or pudding that
is made from milk, cream,
sugar, wheat flour, and eggs.
It comes in many
forms, including vanilla,
lemon, lime, peanut butter,
banana, coconut,
and chocolate. One feature of
most cream pies is a
whipped cream topping.
Custard Pie
is any type of uncooked
custard mixture added to an
uncooked or partially cooked
crust and baked together. In
North America, custard pie
commonly refers to a
plain mixture of milk, eggs,
sugar, salt, vanilla extract and
sometimes nutmeg combined
with a pie crust.
