IDENTIFY VARIOUS SIZES OF

AVAILABLE COARSE AGGREGATES

FROM SAMPLE OF 10 KG IN
LABORATORY AND PREPARE
REPORT OF (60, 40, 20, 10 mm)

R 34 ARYA ROY
OBJECTIVE
The sieve analysis determines the gradation
(the distribution of aggregate particles, by
size, within a given sample) in order to
determine compliance with design,
production control requirements, and
verification specifications.
APPARATUS
1. Weighing Balance
2. Pan
3. Lid
4. Spade
5. Sample of coarse aggregate weighing 10 kg(60,
40, 20, 10 mm)
6. Sieve shaker
7. Carrying Pan
8. Brush
9. IS Sieve size
PROCEDURE
1. First we have to weigh the sieve and note down its
weight.
2. Then we have to take the combined weight of sieve
and coarse aggregate together.
3. Now, we have the subtract the weight of the sieve
from the combined weight of sieve and coarse
aggregate, thus we will know the weight of coarse
aggregate.
4. Like this, we have to test a total of 10 kg and find out
the length of coarse aggregate of different sizes and
how much coarse aggregate is there in retain in sieve
and passing in sieve.

PRECAUTIONS
1. Before sieving, the soil should be air dried
in order to avoid lumps of fine particles and
also to prevent clogging of the finer sieves.
2. Sieves should also be cleaned before use.
3. The actual sieving operation should be
done by hand or by sieve shaker.
4. We should also wear safety equipment like
goggles or gloves before doing the
experiment.
