CHROMATOGRAPHY:

Chromatography is a Greek word which means

“Colour Writing”.
DEFINATION: A technique for the separation of a
mixture by passing it in solution or suspension
through a medium in which the components move
at different rates.

GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY:
Definition of gas chromatography:
chromatography in which the sample mixture is
vaporized and injected into a stream of carrier gas
(such as nitrogen or helium) moving through a column
containing a stationary phase composed of a liquid or
particulate solid and is separated into its component
compounds according to their affinity for the stationary
phase.
EXPLANATION:
• In gas chromatography, the mobile phase (or "moving
phase") is a carrier gas, usually an inert gas such as helium
or an uncreative gas such as nitrogen. Helium remains
the most commonly used carrier gas in about 90% of
instruments although hydrogen is preferred for improved
separations.[3] The stationary phase is a microscopic layer
of liquid or polymer on an inert solid support, inside a
piece of glass or metal tubing called a column (an homage
to the fractionating column used in distillation). The
instrument used to perform gas chromatography is called
a gas chromatograph (or "aerograph", "gas separator").

RADIOCHROMATOGRAPHY:
• DEFINATION:
• The process of making a quantitative or
qualitative determination of a radioisotope-
labeled substance by measuring the
radioactivity of the appropriate zone or spot in
the chromatogram.

• DEFINATION:
• Chromatography of two or more samples
together.

chromatographic comparison with a known
substance.
