The Renaissance
The Renaissance

Italians became curious about the larger world .

. At this same time, scholars from other parts of the

world came to Italy, bringing books written by ancient

Greeks and Romans.


The Renaissance
Interest in Greece and Rome grew.
People studied subjects once taught in Greek and
Roman schools ,such as history ,poetry ,and grammar .
These subjects are known as the humanities .

Increased study of the humanities led to humanism

 :What is Renaissance , and when did it start?


Renaissance is a French word that means rebirth of art,
science, and learning. It started by mid fourteen Century. It
lasted for 200 years.
What is humanism? Who encouraged this idea?

People should work to increase the standards of health


and knowledge that was encouraged by the Byzantines who
appreciated Roman and Greek culture and technology.

 Do Humanists believe in God?

 Because humanists do not believe in any kind


of god or supernatural force that will solve their
problems, they believe that human beings must take
sole responsibility for solving the world's environmental
problems. Only humans are capable of finding the
solutions that can lead to a sustainable existence.

From the mid fourteen century to the seventeen century


Who are humanists?

People who studied philosophy of humanism.

They studied ancient and modern languages, literature,

philosophy, history, human geography, law, politics, and art.

What caused the Dark Ages ?

 The economic collapse of the Western Roman Empire. By


the middle of the third century, the Roman Empire was in
deep trouble. It was suffering from an economic crisis, a
string of civil wars, two major rebellions, a plague
outbreak, and many, many emperors being murdered.

What happened during the Dark Ages ?


 Many Roman and Greek advances were lost , and hunger,
poverty, and diseases spread in Europe. these questions :
