IMPORTANCE OF LIFE SKILLS

What does it take to thrive in a world where there is

conflict, violence, gender and ethnic discrimination,
etc.?
The challenges children and young people regularly
face are many.
That is why 164 nations committed to include
“Lifeskills" as a basic learning need for all young
people.
IMPORTANCE OF LIFE SKILLS…continue

A central idea is shared: young

people regularly face risks that
threaten their health and limit
their learning opportunities; yet,
information alone is not
enough to protect them from
these risks.
COURSE OUTCOMES
Use newly developed intra and interpersonal skills in
their interactions with learners.
Distinguish between Life Skills, Life Orientation,
Health Education and Health Promotion
Identify youth at risk in terms of sexual and
reproductive health, alcohol, tobacco and other
substance use, fitness and nutrition, interpersonal
violence, HIV/AIDS etc.
Foster and develop resilience in youth through Life
Skills interventions
COURSE OUTCOMES …continue
Design and facilitate Life Skills programmes
Reflect on predjudges regarding HIV/AIDs and
engage critically with issues of stigma and
discrimination as this directly impacts on children
and affected adults.
Understand the need of learners affected by
HIV/AIDS and refer appropriately.
Employ listening and support skills to better
respond to learners, parents and colleagues who may
need counselling, specifically in the area of HIV/AIDS.
