SELF ESTEEM
In psychology, the term self-esteem is used to describe a person's
overall subjective sense of personal worth or value. In other words,
self-esteem may be defined as how much you appreciate and like
yourself regardless of the circumstances. Various studies have
confirmed that self-esteem has a direct relationship with our overall
well-being, and we would do well to keep this fact in mind—both for
ourselves and for those around us, particularly the developing children
we interact with.Your self-esteem is defined by many factors including:

● Identity
● Sense of belonging
● Feeling of competence

OBSERVATION
According to the survey we conducted, out of
10 females most of them scored in the
‘NORMAL’ range while 1 scored in the ‘LOW’
range.

Out of 10 males, 7 of them were in the


‘NORMAL’ range, while 2 scored ‘LOW’ and
1 scored ‘HIGH’.

In conclusion, males scored more than females


in the Rosenberg Self Esteem survey, with an
average of 19 while females had an average of
17.7
LOCUS OF CONTROL

Locus of control is the degree to which people believe that


they, as opposed to external forces (beyond their influence),
have control over the outcome of events in their lives. This
concept was developed by Julian B. Rotter and since then
has become a part of Personality Psychology.
A person’s locus is conceptualized as internal and external
locus People with a strong external locus of control tend to
praise or blame external factors such as the teacher or the
exam.

OBSERVATION
According to the survey we conducted, 6 out
of 10 females displayed External Locus of
Control while 4 displayed Internal Locus of
Control.

Whereas, when the same study was


conducted with males, most of them (9 out of
10) displayed Internal Locus of Control
while only 1 displayed External Locus of
Control.

On an average, girls show more External


Locus of Control than boys who are more
prone to Internal Locus of Control.
NEED FOR ACHIEVEMENT
Need for achievement (N-Ach) is an individual's desire for significant
accomplishment, mastering of skills, control, or high standards. The term was
first used by Henry Murray and associated with a range of actions. These
include: "intense, prolonged and repeated efforts to accomplish something
difficult. To work with singleness of purpose towards a high and distant goal.
To have the determination to win". The concept of N-Ach was subsequently
popularized by the psychologist David McClelland

Need for Achievement is related to the difficulty of tasks people choose to


undertake. Those with low N-Ach may choose very easy tasks, in order to
minimize risk of failure, or highly difficult tasks, such that a failure would not
be embarrassing. Those with high N-Ach tend to choose moderately difficult
tasks, feeling that they are challenging, but within reach.
People high in N-Ach are characterized by a tendency to seek challenges and
a high degree of independence. Their most satisfying reward is the
recognition of their achievements.

OBSERVATION
According to the survey we conducted,
50% of the females displayed an
‘AVERAGE’ need for achievement while
the rest showed a ‘MODERATELY LOW’
need for achievement.

In contrast, 60% of the males showed an


‘AVERAGE’ need for achievement, leaving
only 40% with a ‘MODERATELY LOW’
need for achievement.
