ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF SOCIAL CAPITAL ON THE

PRODUCTIVITY OF LOCAL COFFEE FARMERS, BANGELAN


VILLAGE, WONOSARI DISTRICT, MALANG REGENCY

I. RESEARCH BACKGROUND

1. Bangelan park area is 917 ha. With 864 ha planted with Robusta coffee, while the remaining 50 ha was planted with Arabica
coffee

2. In one harvest, Bangelan plantations produce 1.1 tons to 1.2 tons of coffee per hectare. Bangelan gardens are not only
owned by the company but also owned by the community

3. The problem is that productivity is lower than other villages in Malang Regency and seeing the social interactions that occur
to coffee farmers in Bangelan Village

4. Therefore this research was conducted to see the influence of social capital in which there is communication, social
interaction and the elements of social capital consist of trust, social norms and networks.
II. RESEARCH PURPOSE

1. Identifying the level of farmer confidence in coffee production or productivity in Bangelan Village,
Wonosari District, Malang Regency

2. Identify the network pattern that occurs in the production or productivity of local coffee farmers in
Bangelan Village, Wonosari District, Malang Regency

3. Identify social norms on the production and productivity of local coffee farmers in Bangelan
Village, Wonosari District, Malang Regency

4. Analyze and describe the relationship between trust, network, and social norms that have a
positive effect on the productivity of local coffee farmers in Bangelan Village, Wonosari District,
Malang Regency?

variables has an effect on the productivity of coffee farmers
VI. CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

6.1 Conclusion
1. The indicator of trust in the highest aspect is a sense of mutual help between fellow farmers
2. The indicator of social norms in its highest aspect is related to farmer compliance in written norms
3. The indicator of the highest aspect of the network is the external interaction of farmers, in this case, many farmers
follow and collaborate with parties outside the village
4. The effect of social capital on coffee productivity is explained by 50% of the effect on increasing coffee
productivity

6.2 Suggestions
1. For PTPN XII and the agency to further optimize the technical guidance of cultivation and post-harvest technical
assistance
2. The values ​contained in Bangelan village which are considered to be able to increase productivity are still
maintained and developed
3. For Bangelan village coffee, more and more are planted and the sale of this specialty coffee can be increased
