GENERAL INDUCTION PROGRAMME
Vellore Institute of Technology is a private university founded in 1984 as Vellore College of
Engineering by G.Vishwanathan, the Chancellor of the University. The Pro-Vice Chancellor ,
Dr.S.Narayanan glorified the bright past of the college and explained the facilities and
opportunities we can avail as a VITian. Honorable Chancellor Dr.G.Vishwanathan, Vice
Chancellor Dr.Rambabu Kodali and Vice President Mr.G.V. Selvam welcomed the freshers, their
parents and addressed them. The various events that take place in VIT helps in all round
development of the student , apart from academics a lot more extracurricular activities are also
there. Students not only get placement in India but also in foreign countries, it depends on
student’s hard work. We were informed about the facilities that will be beneficial for us in future.
We were elaborated about placement policy that is selection in Super Dream Company, IT
Company, Dream Core Company, etc. VIT has also collaborated with many foreign universities
so students have opportunity to go and study abroad, the professors from foreign colleges pay
visit to VIT and guide students in research projects. VIT has many national and international
Chapters for deserving and hard working students ,it assigns many projects and involves them in
research in their field and some research projects are funded by VIT and even by some other
organizations, students are guided by professors from foreign universities. All this helps a
students in gaining knowledge, experience, career development, bright and a secure future.
INTRODUCTION TO CHEMICAL
ENGINEERING
The school chemical engineering at is determined to nurture new talents
and create leaders who can bring the difference in society and in our day to
day life . The induction program was very useful to me as it cleared all my
doubts about chemical engineering .we were told about the main motive of
a chemical engineer. we came to know that every field is open for chemical
engineers whether it is a cometic industry or automobile industry or
petrochemical industry chemical engineers are in high demand also I
learned about the core difference between a chemist and a chemical
engineer that chemist work with small quantity of chemicals in small test
tubes but a chemical engineer handles a large amount of chemicals and
work with machinery in a industrial set up.
We were also explained about the various career opportunities open for Chemical Engineers. We
could go for higher studies in India or abroad . We saw the world ranking of the chemical
engineer branch as a whole of VIT. Then we were given brief explanation of how chemical
engineers came to be known to the world and the type of typical activities chemical engineer
deals in day to day life .
CAMPUS TOUR AND PROCTOR SCHEME
Due to the Pandemic it was not possible for the freshers to go the college, so we were given an
virtual tour of VIT through an eye catching presentation by Dr. Sharmila N , she showed and told
us about the main building, buildings of all the different Schools of Engineering, Library , Anna
Auditorium, Open-Air theatre, Mess, hospital inside the campus , garden and much more. After
that the Directors of the Hostels , Dr. Sumanthy S and Dr. Prabakar S, gave us a glimpse of the
hostel through an astonishing PowerPoint presentation and we got an insight of life at hostel in
‘VIT- Home away from Home’. They informed us about the facilities available in hostels like 24/7
health services, free Wi-Fi , Gym, Salon, Swimming pool, Self defense workshop, etc. Along with
the facilities they told us about the rules and regulations of the hostel. Dr. Kalaivchelvan G,
Director-UG Admissions ended the session by his thoughtful vote of thanks

We were informed about the proctor scheme VIT offered to their students and gave a general idea
on how proctors can help us and also explained our relationship with the proctor , how proctors
are always available to guide us. We were told how proctors can help students with personal as
well as academic issues by Dr. Goyal Kumar, University Proctor. Every student is assigned a
proctor for the four years of his/her stay in VIT Vellore, a proctor is like your guardian for the
time you are in college, an interaction meeting is held with the proctor on Wednesday of first
week every month.
DIFFERENT SESSIONS AND ACTIVITIES

Yoga is the best way to keep one’s body healthy and also relieves stress. It also improves
our concentration power . We learnt about various asanas and the teacher made us
understand different types of yoga asanas.
The Zumba Session was taken by second year seniors they told us about the dance club and
the teams . There are different teams for different dance forms, there are teams named as –
Team Bollywood, Team Jazz etc.
To give us some break from normal routine an event based on board games was organized
and to make it more fun some other games like quizzes related to VIT campus were asked
and then we were asked to guess the logo of some iconic brands, companies .
The counselling session was based on stress management . It gave us the logic and concept
behind to manage our stress but also the counsellor took initiative to make our stress relief
by singing along the playing guitar.
Certain cultural programs were initiated by our seniors which included performances in
the form of dance, music, singing and instruments.
All of them showcased their talents in a very beautiful way which left all of us stunned.
There was also a drawing workshop in which our seniors displayed several drawings,
paintings and Mandal art. Students who were interested could join their clubs and be a
part of it.
A poetry competition was also organized on World Suicide Prevention Day.
An expert lecture based on Entrepreneurship was conducted which gave several ideas
for start-ups. It boosted us to become a business person.
There was also a lecture on product development which assigned us into groups with
the task of developing any product that comes into our mind.
A session on women empowerment took place which gave us the urge to become a part
of that campaign. This session revealed the value of women and how they are
undermined in the society.
A workshop was conducted by Creativity Club which explained that creativity is the
biggest boon for all useful developments.
CONCLUSION

The purpose of the induction programme was to give us a brief picture on how
our academic works online, to give an idea about our course, to show what our
campus looks like and to introduce us to all our faculty members. This helped
us to get a clear picture of our next 4 years of our lives. They also cleared all
our doubts asked which lessened our problems. As we cannot have a fresher’s
day, they gave a warm welcome online with all these events which made us
happy. I am really glad to be a part of this prestigious institute that I chose for
the next phase of my life. Also hoping to join the campus soon.
