Pre-Lesson
• Teacher shows pictures of different situations and asks students to identify the differences.
While
1. Students are asked to recall about Formal and Informal situations that they know to check their understanding
before the teacher introduces the Formal and Informal register in writing.
2. Ask students to list out few formal and informal situations to further check their understanding.
3. Next, students are asked to discuss on the differences of saying things in the two situations: formal and informal.
4. Collect the answers and discuss as a class.
5. Further explanation by the teacher on the formal and informal register in writing.
6. Students are given an exercise on the lesson to check the students’ understanding.
7. Students choose one topic from the exercise and write an essay.

Post-Lesson
Ask students to list out other examples of formal and informal register with their partner and share
with the class.
