¿What does cogersa stands for?

COGERSA means acrónimo de Consorcio para la

Gestión de los Residuos Sólidos de Asturias.
¿Which organizations from cogersa?

Cogersa works with 78 Asturian city halls

and the government of the Asturias
principality.
When was COGERSA founded?

Cogersa was founded in

1982, whit the support of the
principality of Asturias, and
little by little more city halls
joined with COGERSA.
Spot COGERSA in a map of Asturias. What is
the name of the valley where COGERSA is
located?
The name of the valley is La Zoreda
Which areas are there in
COGERSA (wastewater
treatment, etc.)?
It have eleven for not dangerous things:
It have six for dangerous things:

-Security deposit
-Paper and cardboard sorting plant
-Physicochemical
-Light packaging selection plant
-Solidification - stabilization
-Anaerobic digestion plant (biomethanization)
-Oil treatment
-RCD sorting plant
-Marpol plant
-Composting plant
-WEEE selection plant -Heat treatment furnaces
-Treatment of animal waste (PROYGRASA)
-Non-hazardous waste landfill
-Inert waste landfill
-Leachate treatment
-Capture and use of biogas
When is COGERSA expected to be fulfilled? What will be
done then?

The people think

COGERSA is going to
get full on 2022 or
2023 approx.
Name the “3 R's” of recycling

-Recycle
-Reduce
-Re-use
Name The colours of each recycling
container and what kind of rubbish must be dropped in each
one

● BLUE – Paper Recycling.

● GREEN – Organic Recycling.
● RED – Landfill Waste.
● YELLOW – Mixed Recycling.
● WHITE – Soft Plastic Recycling.
What is a “Sigre” spot?
The Sigre spot is a point in
the farmacy where you can
put drug leftovers, and
recycle it.
Tell us how many years Nature needs to have the following
waste decomposed: paper, nappies, soda can, chewing
gum, plastic, glass

Paper: 365 days approx

Nappies: 300 or 400 years approx
Soda can: 10 years approx
Chewing gum: 5 years approx
Plastic: 150 years approx
Glass: 4000 years approx
What is an Recycling centers are places where
the trash is recycled.
recycling center? On Gijon are 14 recycling centers.
How many
recycling centers
are there in Gijon?
Where are they
placed
How many kilograms of trash are generated
on Asturias for per and inhabitant and year?

In Asturias are
generated 446,4 kg at
a year.
How many kilograms of separated trash are
collected in Gijon per inhabitant and a year?
They collect approx 47,44 for 1 habitant in 1 year.
Plastic materials may have a second
life (reuse). Show the second use of: oil, paper, plastic,
organic matter,
metals, glass and tyres

Oil: You can make fabrics, paintings, etc. Whit the remains.
Paper: You can use it for manualities or paints.
Plastic: You can make curtains clothes, or bags.
Organic matter metals: You can make compost.
Glass: You can make art, rings, kitchen stuff, etc.
Tyres: You can make fake grass, roofs, etc.
What is “biogás”? What is biogás used for?
The biogas is an renovable gas made principally for
methane or dioxide, it makes electric energy.
How much petrol is used to produce a plastic
bag?
Is used 250 ml for make an plastic bag.
Leachates are a serious environmental risk.
What are they?
How can COGERSA deal with them? Leachate is the fluid that is
produced through a solid.

COGERSA makes them:

Physico-chemical treatment
Biological purification
Ultrafiltration
Complementary treatments
Installation control
Effluent discharge
What is compost? How is it made?
The compost is an product obtained from different
materials of organic origin, which are subjected to
a biological process. Shred the organic matter and
place it in a box, heat the box with the compost, mix
the compost, move it every 1 or 2 weeks and see if it is
ready.
What is ecoembes?

Ecoembes is an
organisation that cares for
the environment through
recycling.
Carbon footprint
There is a triangle with a number inside at the bottom of
plastic bottles. What does it mean?

It means that the lower the

number, easier it is to recycle.
What is overpacking?

The overpack is a container capable of

holding one or more packages with
which to facilitate their handling.
Explain the word “eutrophication” with your own words.

What is the reason for what eutrophication is dangerous for the

environment?

Eutrophication is the excessive appearance of nutrients in the aquatic

ecosystem, which make the water appear green.
This affects the waters by putting them with green colors and
leaving them without oxygen, in addition to adding nauseating
odors.
Heavy metals such as lead, cadmium,
mercury, etc. can be accumulated by
fish. What is the serious health risk?

This is risky because when consuming

heavy metals they remain in their bodies
and then we eat those fish and
unconsciously we eat heavy metals.
The bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical product added to
many plastics used to contain liquids. What is BPA
used for? What health risks does the BPA have?

BPA is used to create two types of plastic:

polycarbonate and epoxy resins.
Chromosomal alterations, Brain damage, Impaired
immune function or Decreased levels of enzymatic
antioxidants.
Indicate the environmental problems caused by the use of
pesticides
The risks derived from the use of pesticides can
be caused by their toxicity or other effects
(corrosive, irritant, flammable, explosive).
Smog is created when photons of
sunlight collide with molecules of One of the types of
different types. Smog produces air pollution is
obstruction in the airways, cough, “smog”. How is
inflammation, etc.
“smog” created and
which health
problems can it
cause?
Diesel vehicles are told to emit a big amount of contaminants such as
NOx and microparticles. What are they and what health problems can
they cause?

These are ultrafine particles

that can enter the body
through the air, causing
respiratory diseases, heart
attacks and strokes.
To avoid NOx pollution, an “adblue” additive is used; adblue is made of
urea. Identify other uses for urea and look for where “urea” is in the
human body
Urea uses: fertilizer, facial cream, hand cream, cosmetic
products, etc. Urea is human urine or sweat.
