CORONA VACCINE

AWARENESS
❏ WHAT
WHATISISCOVID-19?
COVID19?
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.

Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness
and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical
problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more
likely to develop serious illness. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well
informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. Protect yourself and
others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol based rub frequently and not
touching your face.

The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when
an infected person coughs or sneezes.

● The vaccine received DCGI approval for Phase I & II Human Clinical
Trials and the trials commenced across India from July, 2020.
● After successful completion of the interim analysis from the Phase 1 & 2
clinical trials of COVAXINTM, Bharat Biotech received DCGI approval

myths or misconceptions.
3. Hesitancy of public is addressed on the COVID-19 vaccination process.
4. Provide correct, consistent and timely information on the new COVID-19
vaccine(s) (availability, safety, and timelines) and vaccination processes.
5. Generate awareness and understanding of the phased approach of prioritizing
target groups.
6. Address low-risk perception of the infection amongst people and build an
enabling environment to adopt and maintain COVID appropriate behaviours to
reduce any risks of infection.
TARGET AUDIENCE

Covid-19 vaccine FAQs
ANS:
Q1.Why should we Vaccines and childhood immunization are vital
practices to protecting yourself, your children, and
vaccinate? the entire population from contracting dangerous
diseases and from preventing outbreaks and
pandemics.

As we are experiencing now with COVID-19,

pandemics are scary, life-changing and affect much
more than just our health and daily lives. Vaccines
protect against diseases that have the possibility to
become pandemics, and by continuously
vaccinating, it is even possible for diseases to
become completely eliminated.
Q2.How do I know if the covid vaccine is safe?
Even though COVID-19 vaccines are being developed more quickly than usual, vaccine safety is still a top
priority in all phases of vaccine development, vaccine approval, and post-approval vaccine monitoring.

While steps are being streamlined or overlapped, none of them are being skipped.

Clinical Trials
Just like all other vaccines COVID-19 vaccine candidates are first tested by vaccine
manufacturers/researchers in three phases of clinical trials. The purpose of these trials is to see if the vaccine
candidates are safe and effective. During the Phase 3 clinical trials, researchers compare the health of those
who get the vaccine to that of those who didn’t. This helps researchers spot common side effects and see if
those in the vaccinated group are less likely to get sick than those who got a placebo. (A placebo is a
harmless, “fake” vaccine given to half the people in the clinical trial. People in the vaccine clinical trial are
not told whether they received the actual vaccine or the placebo), COVID-19 vaccine trials done so far have
generally included tens of thousands of people, including people of color.
Q3.How quickly could covid-19 vaccines stop the
pandemic?

The impact of COVID-19 vaccines on the pandemic will depend on

several factors. These include factors such as the effectiveness of the
vaccines; how quickly they are approved, manufactured, and delivered;
and how many people get vaccinated.

Most scientists anticipate that, like most other vaccines, COVID-19

vaccines will not be 100% effective. WHO is working to help ensure that
any approved vaccines are as effective as possible, so they can have the
greatest impact on the pandemic.
Q4.Will it be mandatory to take the vaccine?
The vaccine will be voluntarily. However, it is advisable to complete
the vaccine schedule in order to protect ourselves, our near and
dear ones, our close contacts, family members, and co-workers.

Q5.Is registration with the health department mandatory?

Registration is mandatory for vaccination. The information on the session

site (where vaccination will take place) to visit, and the time will be shared

with the beneficiary only after registration.

A mobile phone application is being created to get registered.

Q6.Are there any preventive measures and precautions that one needs to
follow at the session site?
You should rest for at least half an hour after taking the Covid-vaccine. Any
symptoms or discomfort must be reported to the nearest ANM or ASHA worker.
Q7.What documents does one need for vaccination?
Documents such as driving licence, health insurance, smart card issued by the Ministry of

Labour, MNREGA guarantee card, MNREGA job card, official identity card issued by

MPs, MLAs, PAN card, passbook of bank or post office, passport, pension documents,

service identity card issued to employees by central/state government or public limited

companies, and Voter ID cards can be used for registration.
