Women are the epitome of strength, love, sacrifice and courage .
Throughout World’s history, the status of women in society has
been mixed. In some ways, girls and women have held eminent
positions of power, both in mythology and real life.
Women in Indian society and culture

The status of women in India has been subject to many changes over
the span of recorded Indian history.Their position in society deteriorated
early in India's ancient period, and their subordination continued to be
reified well into India's early modern period. Practises such as
female infanticide, dowry, child marriage and the taboo on
widow remarriage, which began in upper-caste Hindu society in Northern
India, have had a long duration, proving difficult to root out, and in the
instance of dowry have spread to all castes, classes, and even religions
These practices were and still continue to hold back women in some regions of
india
Sati or suttee was a historical Hindu practice, in which a widow sacrifices herself
by sitting atop her deceased husband's funeral pyre.
The Devadasi is a Sanskrit term which means servant of Deva (GOD) or Devi
(GODESS).
They would be ‘married’ to the deity and after the ceremony they are required to
perform useful functions at temples like cleaning of temples, lighting lamps,
dressing the deities etc.
The system of devadasis was misunderstood by the Mughal rulers and Europeans
as because they were totally unaware about the idea of art as an offering to God.
As per their understanding girls dancing and singing in temple are doing that for
the purpose of entertainment of rich people and they were not better than
prostitute.
But this religious practice was deteriorated during medieval period due to
destruction of large number of temples. This phenomena leads to degrade the
status of Devadasi’s in society and because of their financial problem they
became mistress of royal and rich man.
Inequality,tradition and society
In previous times, men dominated society while women were secondary to them.
At the family level, women had very little to no opinion, and the men were the sole
in-charge of all decisions. A woman was considered a man’s possession. Great
heights of academic achievements and formal jobs were for men, while women
fulfilled the family responsibilities and bore the burden of house-chores. A
patriarchal and oppressed society with an inhumane caste system led to the
immense suffering of women in various parts of the world. They were (and are
being) mistreated inside and outside their homes.
The Constitution of India clearly states that women have equal rights with men and
are legal citizens of the country. Despite this, a majority of them suffer from poor
health and malnutrition. It creates a significant problem, especially for pregnant
and nursing women. They have to complete the household chores on top priority. If
the women even think of themselves first, in any manner (academically,
financially, etc.), society makes them feel guilty about it. Earlier, the majority of
women were uneducated, now, many of them have education, but most of it is not

1.Nigeria

Nigeria’s 40 million women of childbearing age (between 15 and 49

years of age) suffer a disproportionally high level of health issues
surrounding birth.Poor access to water, sanitation and hygiene
(WASH) remains a major challenge, contributing significantly to high
levels of diarrhoea-related deaths.Nigeria accounts for more than one
in five out-of-school children anywhere in the world. Girls suffer
more than boys in terms of missing out on education. In the north-east
of Nigeria only 41 per cent of eligible girls receive a primary
education, 47 per cent in the north-west
2. Arab countries

A man controls a Saudi woman’s life from her birth until

her death.Women cannot apply for a passport or travel
outside the country without their male guardian’s
approval.Saudi law has no minimum marriage age, and
Saudi media outlets continue to carry occasional reports of
child marriages.
Women’s right to divorce is more restricted than for men.
While the courts may allow children to live with their
mothers following a divorce, women have no right to be
their children’s legal guardian.
In matters of inheritance, as in most Muslim-majority
countries, women are only entitled to inherit half of what
male heirs inherit.
Imprisoned women whose families refuse to release them
are forced to remain in prison or in shelters until they
reconcile with their families or obtain a new guardian.
Some women who brought change
Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani education advocate who, at the age of 17
in 2014, became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize after
surviving an assassination attempt by the Taliban. Yousafzai became an
advocate for girls' education when she herself was still a child

Rosa Parks
Rosa Parks was a civil rights leader whose refusal to give up her seat to
a white passenger on a segregated bus led to the Montgomery Bus
Boycott. Her bravery led to nationwide efforts to end racial segregation.

CONCLUSION
The journey of liberation of women has crossed many milestones and the society
has indeed come a long way. They have struggled hard over the last few decades
but still been able to successfully establish their own identity. Today’s women
are adorned with patience and perseverance, which has helped them to attain
the pinnacle of success. Earlier, women were seen only as housewives who were
projected to cook, clean and take care of their family. Today- along with
handling tough clients at office, they successfully multitask at home too. Women
are more focused and have a unique decision making power even at senior
leadership level, in the most optimal manner, and at times are in a better
position than men. Empowering women can help the society to grow and
develop at a faster pace. We are definitely redesigning the world!
LET US MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER
PLACE FOR EVERY HUMAN BEING
