Mandala Art
Mandala, which is Sanskrit for “circle” or
“discoid object,” is a geometric design
that holds a great deal of symbolism in
Hindu and Buddhist cultures.
Sikkim Art
A Thangka is an elaborately hand painted
religious scroll in brilliant colours drawn
on fabric. It is not a mere decorative piece
but a powerful aid to tantric meditation, a
visual depiction to steady the mind and
aid its focus. The themes of the thangkas
relate to the Buddha and his life, as well
as the lives of the Bodhisattvas, the Taras,
the great saints and Buddhist masters.
Arts and Maths
Many mathematicians draw upon art and
many artists draw upon mathematics.
When mathematics and art come together,
students are often inspired and they can
start to see mathematics as a beautiful
and creative subject.

Sikkim is a landlocked state located in
northeastern India. It borders Tibet in the north and
northeast, Bhutan in the east, Nepal in the
west, and West Bengal in the south.
Sikkim is considered as one of the most beautiful state
in India . It is notable for its biodiversity, flora and fauna,
culture, mountains and many other things. It also hosts
the Kanchenjunga Mountain, which is the 3rd largest
mountain in the world.
Sikkim's capital and largest city is Gangtok.
Let us see the beautiful pictures of Sikkim and
understand some Mathematical Concepts .
C is the hypotenuse , B is C PROOF OF PYTHAGORAS
the base and A is the THEOREM:
height in the right angled
triangle given below.

A Pythagoras theorem states that “In a right-angled

triangle, the square of the hypotenuse side is equal
to the sum of squares of the other two sides“.
The following figure can help us understand the
proof. With the help of measurements available on
C C PowerPoint,we find that Side C = 5cm , B = 4cm
A
and A = 3cm. The quadrilaterals situated with the
sides are all squares(we know this because of the
measurements we took), now let us calculate the area
B of these squares:
Area of square above hypotenuse : C*C = 5*5 =
A 25cm^2(square area = side*side)
Area of square below base = B*B= 16cm^2 , and
area of square beside the height is 9cm^2. From the
areas of squares written above we find out that
B B A^2 + B^2 = C^2 (as 9+16 = 25), so we can say
that the square of hypotenuse is equal to the square
of base and height,
