Today’s Lesson Protocol
Good morning, everyone.
Today, we will do the following:
1. Register for the session, using the Attendance icon, and then you go to joinpd.com
and enter the code.
2. Today, the title of our lesson is “Carbon compounds”
3. First, we will warm up on pear deck.

4. Next, we will solve problems related to biological macromolecules, as an overview of

the whole lesson.
Objectives:

Students will:

❏ Apply what they learned about

biological macromolecules.
Carbon-based
Macromolecules

Carbohydrates Lipids Proteins Nucleic acids

Which food molecule (Carbs, lipid, protein) would you eat if……

Carbs • Instant, immediate

energy: Carbs
Proteins
• Stored long term
Carbs energy: Lipids

Proteins • Strong nails, hair,

healthy blood:

Indicate whether the substance is a carbohydrate, lipids, or proteins:

Carbohydrates
Lipids ( No ratio)
(1:2:1)

Proteins ( contains
Lipids ( No ratio)
N, Nitrogen)

C, H, O: Carbs or lipids , if it follows the 1:2:1 ration then it is a carb

C,H,O,N: Protein

C,H,O,N,P Nucleic acid

According to the above diagram, the number of the calories is per gram:
1- If you eat a sandwich of 46 g of carbs and 24 grams of proteins and 10 g of fats, how many calories in total
would you consume? 46*4 + 24*4 + 10*9 = 370 calories

2- Which macromolecule is broken first for energy? Carbohydrates

3- Why do people on diet avoid carbs and fats and exercise more often? Because the body must break down all
the carbs, then it will start breaking down the fats, that’s when ylu lose weight, and exercise to break down the
carbs faster.
Fill in the table:
