CASE STUDY

Case Study – Cloud Algorithm Development

Consider one of millions of electric two-wheelers connected to the cloud. This two-wheeler has a BMS with basic algorithms for its 2x18s10p battery system.
The two battery packs are connected in parallel and each have a thermistor mounted on the pack housing. Pack-level voltage and current measurements are
available, along with cell voltages for each row of parallel-connected cells. The cloud is connected to an intelligent analytics platform which runs a digital twin
of the battery system installed in the electric two-wheeler. This digital twin includes a physics-based cell model that simulates degradation mechanisms. This
platform is meant to provide the user with a prediction of remaining useful life and trigger the appropriate messages should the battery system require
immediate inspection by trained personnel.

You are tasked with developing a concept for a data dashboard that allows for online visualization of the above-mentioned measurements (pack-level
voltages, currents and temperatures as well as cell-level voltages) and derived quantities, such as SoC and SoH. The following list is meant to be used as
guidance, but it is not an exhaustive list of topics that can be addressed:

• What are your assumptions about data volume, variety and velocity?
• In your
//
professional opinion, what does the data pipeline look like?
• Can data-driven approaches be combined with the cell model to improve battery performance and/or enable predictive maintenance capability?
• How would you attempt data visualization in more than three dimensions?
• How would you go about a V&V strategy for your concept?

Plan to spend no more than half a day on this case study. Summarize your concept in a presentation (only a few slides) and prepare to present it to the
interview panel. Hand-drawn diagrams inserted into the presentation are acceptable.
