A compound noun is a single item, composed of two words (e.g.


pedestrian crossing). Some compound nouns are one word (e.g.
lunchtime).

They are usually formed of:


• Noun + noun (e.g. newspaper)
• Verb + ing + noun (e.g. washing machine)
• Noun + verb + ing (e.g. windsurfing)
