Introduction
1. Brick and brick construction has a long tradition in construction activities for
centuries, and it continues to dominate among the commonly used
construction materials.
2. In general, the brick masonry construction, failures can be categorized either
by a defect in materials or workmanship, Usually, the crack initiations are
normal on considering different weather conditions. Day by day, the crack
propagation will be more, or it may affect the structure critically.
3. The placing any ductile member in the horizontal bed joints and vertical wall
of masonry can improve strength and prevent the crack occurrence
4. Also, the low saturation coefficient of masonry materials provides better
resistance for severe weather condition and freezing-thawing action.

Objectives of present study

1. To investigate the structural performance using single- and double-

layer mesh embedded masonry technique with expanded, stainless
steel, and poultry netting mesh.
2. To evaluate the (i) compressive strength of masonry prism, (ii) flexural
bond strength of masonry panel,
3. To propose the statistical model by a mathematical expression for
compressive strength of masonry units and flexural bond strength of
masonry panel
4. To predict the compressive strength of masonry units and the masonry
panel's flexural bond strength numerically with the Artificial Neural
network (ANN)model.

Need for present study

1.From the literature study, it is clearly understood that the different forms of strengthening
technique was adopted using FRP and steel materials

2.Worldwide researchers were carried out research on strengthening technique using

different materials like Welded Wire Mesh (WWM), Expanded Mesh (EM), Woven wire
Mesh (WM), Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP), Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP),
Basalt Fibre Reinforced Cementitious Material (BFRCM), Carbon Fibre Reinforced
Polymer (CFRP) strips, Reinforcement with twisted bar, Thin polymer layer, Poly
Propylene Band (PPB) and Engineered Cementitious Material (ECC) was used to
strengthen masonry.

Significance points

1. The MEM system may have well anchoring and force may transmit
equally.
2. Placement of mesh could be continued from the base roof
3. Performance against structural effects can be better since mesh
arrangements will resist forces from any directions.
4. The separation of masonry units was minimal
