What is Relative Pronoun?

- is a pronoun used to connect a clause or phrase to a


noun or sentence.

- is a word that introduces a dependent (or relative) clause


and connects it to an independent clause.

WHICH

- it refers to an animal or thing.

For example:

1. My cat which I bought last year hates spicy tuna.

THAT

- it refers to a person, animal, or thing.

For example:

1. The thief that stole my bag is my

MAIN CLAUSE AND RELATIVE CLAUSE

1. Two sentences that talks about one person or one thing.

> I thanked the woman. / She saved my life.

That vs. Which

“That and Which” are two relative pronouns whose


functions are easily confused.

“That” introduces a restrictive clause, and “Which”


introduces a restrictive and non-restrictive clause.
