COMPUTER

COMPONENTS OF COMPUTER
INPUT DEVICES

 Mouse
 Keyboard
 SCANNER
 MICR
 OMR
 OCR
Mouse

 The mouse is the widely used pointing device.

 Ittakes full advantage of a graphical user interface, designer to fit
comfortably under the palm of your hand.
 Mouse is an input device that is used to control the movement of the
pointer on the screen and to make selection from the screen.
Keyboard

 A computer keyboard is an input device used to enter character and function in

to the computer system by passing buttons ,or keys.
 It is the primary device used to enter text.
 A keyboard typically contains keys for individual letter, number and special
characters,as well as keys for specific functions.
 A keyboard is connected to a computer system using a cable or a wireless
connection.
Scanner

 Image scanner is input device that optically scans image, printed text, hand
writing or an object and converts it to a digital image.
 By moving this scanner or by placing the picture on the flat transparent surface
of the scanner any hand copy photo or image can be converted into digital from
in the form of a digital lite.
Magnetic ink character recognition
(MICR)

 The MICR is again a special type of input device that enables

special characters printed in magnetic ink to be read and input
rapidly to a computer.
 MICR-this technology is mainly used by banking
system (ATM counters) and other business
organisation for identification process.
Optical mark recognition (OMR)

 The OMR is a special type of input device or

scanning device which is used to read carefully
placed pencil works on a specially designed OMR
sheet.
 This device is extensively used in conducting
objective type examination, questionnaires and
informs.
Optical character recognition (OCR)

 OCR is the recognition of printed or written text characters by a computer.

 This involves photo scanning of the text characters by character analysis of the
scanned image and then translation of the character image into characters codes,
such as Asell, commonly used in data processing.
Central processing unit (CPU)

 The main unit inside the computer is the CPU.

 It performs the following functions :
1. Perform all calculations
2. Takes all decisions
 It’s divided into four parts.
They are,
1. ALU(Arithmetic logic unit)
2. CU(Control unit)
3. Register memory Fig: Central processing unit
4. Memory unit (CPU)
Output unit

 Some output devices are,

1. Monitor
2. Printer
3. Plotter
4. Speaker etc.
1.Monitor

 Monitor is an electronic output device

that is also known as a video display
terminal (VDT) or a video display unit
(VDU).
 It is used to display image, text, video,
and graphics information generated by a
connected computer via a computer’s
video card.
 Although it is almost like a TV, it’s
resolution is much higher than a TV.

2.Printer

 A printer is an external hard ware device that take the

electronic data stored in a computer or other device and
generates a hard copy.
e.g. if we created a report on our computer,we could
several copies for
Seminar report.
 Printer are one of the most popular computer peripherals
and are commonly used to print text and photos.
 The picture is an example of an injet computer printer,
the Lexmark Z605.
3.plotter
 Plotter is a printer that’s interprets the commandS from a computer to
makes a line drawing on a paper with one or more automated pens.
 Unlike a regular printer, the plotter can draw continues point-to-point
lines directly From vector graphic fiLes command.
 It is more expensive than normal printer.
4.Speaker

 A computer speakers is an output

hardware device that connects to a
computer to generate sound.
 The signal used to produce the
sound that comes from a computer
speaker is created by the computer’s
sound card.
