Input Devices:-
Input Devices is a piece of equipment used to provide data and
control signals to a computer. Without any input device
computer not allows users to interact with it.User enter data
into the computer by using input dev
The examples of input devices are given below :
1. Keyboard:-
Keyboard is commonly used as input device of computer.It only
sends data to computer which we type and doesn’t receive any
information back.Keyboard
consists of buttons that create
letters, symbols and numbers as
well as perform many other
functions.
Types of keyboard:
There are few types of keyboard
 Multimedia keyboard:-
The keyboard that has all multimedia buttons is called
multimedia keyboard. .

 Mechanical keyboard:-The primitive keyboard that uses


physical buttons for each key is known as mechanical
keyboard.
2.Mouse:-
Mouse is input device which is used with a computer.It has two
buttons,left and right button and scroll wheel is present
between these two.By moving a
mouse on plane surface we can move
cursor to different items on the
screen.We can replaced or selected
items by pressing the mouse
buttons.Today technology becomes
more advance.It is a handheld input device that control the
cursor, move it and can select the icons, items and fuels.
3.Light Pen:-
Light Pen is a pointing device.It is used to display the menu
items or draw pictures on the monitor
screen.It consists of photocells
and optical system placed in a small
tube.When we pressed its button and
move its tip on the screen,its photocell

sensing the element detects the screen location and send the
signals to the CPU.
Uses:-
 Light Pen can be used to providing the necessary
arrangements.
 With graphics system it is used as a standard pick device.
 It can be used as valuations.
 It can also used as valuations.
4.Joystick:-
Joystick also is an input device of computer.The movement of
pointer / cursor is controlled by using joystick.It often used to
control the vedio,games and usually have one or more plush –
buttons whose state can also be read by the computer. A

popular variations of joystick used on modern vedio game


console is the analog stick.
5.Trackball:-
Trackball is also a pointing input device.It is used to move the
cursor from one point to another
point.It containing sensors to detect a
rotation of ball about two axes.The
user rolls the ball with their
fingers ,thumb and palm of the hand to
move a cursor.Sometimes, large trackballs are sceen on
computerize special-purpose,such as the radar consoles in an
air-traffic control room or sonar equipment on a ship.
6.Graphics tablet:-
A graphics tablets, digitizer is an input device of computer.It
enables a user to hand-draw images, animations and
graphics.These tablets are also used to
capture data or handwritten
signatures.It is a natural input device
that converts information from a
handheld stylus.User uses the stylus like
a pen, pencil or paintbrush.It also used in the replacement of a
computer mouse.

Pictured is an example of graphics tablet manufacture by
Wacom.
7.Microphone:-
Microphone is also a computer device.It was first invented in
1876 and used as telephone voice
transmitter.It is an electric sensor that
receives the sound and convert it into an
electrical signal.Today,in modern technology
microphones use electromagnetic induction
or light modulation to produce an electrical voltage signal from
mechanical vibration.

8.Scanner:-
Scanner is a digitizer, which is a type of input device.Its earlier
form is appeared in 1860s.It takes information from real world
and then converts it into digital information.Most scanners are
flatbed devices, that have flat scanning surface.It is various for
photographs.Another type of scanner is sheet-fed that can only
accept paper documents.It can’t scan books, some models

include an automatic document feeder, which allows multiple


of pages to be scanned in sequence.
9.Magnetic Ink Card Reader (MICR):-
Magnetic ink card reader can read the number and information
directly into a data- collection device.
Humans can easily read the MICR
characters.The process of encoded
documents is much rapid through
MICR.Its coding called MICR line, that is
present at the bottom of cheques.It also includes the document
type indicator ,bank code , cheque amount and a control
indicator.

10.Optical Character Reader (OCR):-


Optical character reader system is the combination of
hardware and software that used
to convert physical documents into
machine-read able text.The basic
purpose of OCR is examining the text
and translating its characters into

code that can be used for data processing.The process of


OCR is commonly used to convert the documents into PDFs.

11.Optical Mark Reader:-


Optical mark reader is the method of capturing human-marked
data from documents as test.It contains the
information to convert the presence or
absence of marks into computer data
files.OMR scanning is accurate because it
eleminates the transcription errors.

12.Barcode Reader:-

Barcode reader is an optical scanner and a hardware device.It


reads a barcode and printing out the details that product into a
database.These barcode, commonly referred to as linear and
one-dimentional (1D),scanned by special optical scanners,
called barcode readers.Later 2-dimentional variants were
developed, using dots and other geometric patterns.Barcode
contains decode that contains data and send it to the

computer.

Output Devices:-
Output device is a piece of computer hardware equipment
which converts information into human readable form.It is used
to send data from a computer to another device
1. Monitor:-

Monitor is the main output device of computer.It is commonly


called as Visual Display Unit (VDU).It is used to display the
information from a
computer.Monitor provides no
source of input that’s why it is
considered an output device.It
forms images from tiny dots, called pixels that are arranged in a
rectangular form.The formation of image depends upon the
number of pixels.
There are two kinds of viewing screen that are used for
monitors.
 Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)
 Flat Panel Display
2. Speakers:-
Speakers are the most common hardware output devices that
are used with computer systems.Speakers are connected with
computer and generate sound.Mostly speakers have an internal
amplifier.Some speakers are specially designed with computer
while others can be hooked up to any
kind of sound system.
Speakers are made up of cone.When
speaker receives electrical input,it

sends the current through the causing it to more back and


forth.This motion vibrates the outer cone, generate sound
waves picked up by our ears.
3. Headphones:-
Headphones are only output device.These contains one or two
speakers mounted in earcups and
connected via three wire 3.5 or
sometimes may be wireless.Headphones
allow the listner to listen audio or watch
a video without disturbing people
around him.
The most basic type of head phones are
earbuds.These are small in size and fit inside the ear.The shape
of earbuds is so comfortable and its ear- part is made by using
soft rubber.People choose earbuds according to the size of
their ears.
4. Filmrecorder:-
Filmrecorder is a graphical output device that transfer the
images to photographic film from a vedio source.Film recorders
typically work in same manner.Image is fed from a host
computer as a raster stream over a digital interface.It exposes
films through different mechanisms; flying spot or CRT

scanning dot (Celco).Film recorder produce the master copies


of movies that used computer animation or based on digital
image processing. These recorders are used to generate master
negatives for bulk printing process.
5.Plotters:-
Plotter is an output device that is used for translating
information from computer into pictorial form on paper.It is a
computer hardware device just like a printer.It produces vector

graphics drawing.Plotter draw lines on the paper using a pen.

Drum plotter and flatbed plotters are the main types of


plotters. In case of drum plotter , the paper spin back and forth
on cylindrical drum and ink pen move left and right.By
combining these two directions ,lines can be drawn in any
direction.
6.Global Positioning System (GPS):-
Global positioning system is a satellite navigation system.It
receives information from GNSS satellite and then calculate the
location of any device.These days, mobile devices have GPS
systems connected.It gives an accurate
positioning of device.Now a
days,it is commonly used in watches,
laptops, smartphones
etc.Usiny suitable software, the
device may display the position on map and it may offer routing
directions.This device can retrieve location and time
information in all weather conditions , anywhere in the world.

7.Braille Reader:-
A braille reader is called a braille display.It is electronic device
that allows a blind to read the text
which is displayed on the computer
monitor.Braille readers come in
various forms, including large units
(about size of computer keyboard)
and small units designed to work with
laptops and tablet
computer.Computer sends the text to the output device, where
it’s converted to Braille and displayed by raising pins through a
flat surface.
8.LCD Projector Panels:-
LCD projector is a type of projector based on liquid crystals
display which can display images
data or vedio.An LCD projector work on
transmissive technology.It is more
popular than many alternatives due to
the fact that they are cheaper to
produce and have excellent color
production.LCD projectors work by three liquid crystals
panels,a lump,a prism to create the image on screen.They are

commonly used in business meeting, presentations and


seminars.

9.Speech Synthesizer:-
A speech synthesizer is a computerized device that accept
interprets data and produces audible
language.It is a form of output. In this
system,normal language text is
converted into speech that are stored in
database.It having the capability of translating any text.

10.Microfiche:-
Microfiche is an output device of computer invented in 1961.It
is a type of film.It is a thin photographic film, usually four by
five inches that having ability of storing
the information in miniaturized
form.To read the card one places it under
the lens of a microfiche reader machine
which magnifies it.

This technique is used in preserving fragile materials such as


journals , newspapers, magazines as well as method of saving
space in libraries and other archives.

11.Projectors:-
A projector is an optical device.It can take images generated by
a computer and reproduce them by
projection on a screen,wall or another
surface.Most projectors create an image by
shining a light through small
transparent lens.But now projector
can carry a project the image directly by using lasers.Today the
most common type of projector is a vedio projector.It is mostly
used in Powerpoint presentations.
12.Printers:-
Printer is an external hardware output device.This device is
commonly used to print the text and pictures.It takes electronic
data which is stored in a computer and generate its hard
copy.By using it ,we can generate print several hard copies at a
time.
The most common printers that used with computer are given
below:

Inkjet Printer:-
 Print copy of document through inkjet printer.
 Print pictures on photo printers.
 Print receipents for purchases online.

Laser Printer:-
 By using laser printer we can quickly print hundreds of text
document or pages.
 Print hard copies of professional and legal documents.
