DEVICE
Equipments which are used to perform a specific task mainly a piece of electronic and
mechanical gadget.

INPUT DEVICES
DEFINITION:

Hardware which is used to enter data into the computer for processing is
called input device. Input devices are important as they allow user to interact and
control the information added into the computer.

1. KEYBOARD
In order to enter data into the computer we use keyboard. For giving different
commands different keys are mounted on the keyboard. They can be wireless.

 To enter data into the computer in everyday life i.e to make a report card of
student on MS word

2. MOUSE

A mouse is an input device which is used to move the cursor by pressing the flat
surface of the mouse with your hand.

 Use to control the cursor

 Easy to use
 Ideal to use with computer
 no need to buy separatey, usually supplied along with computer

DRAWBACKS OF MOUSE:

 Need flat space close to the computer


 Need space so that it can operate easily
3. TRACKBALL
It is a plastic case contains a ball held by a socket and sensor to rotate the ball about
two axes. It is a different kind of mouse. The gadget stays stationary however user
moves ball present in the socket.

APPLICATION OF TRACKBALL

 It is used for fine control


 Disable people also use it easily
 it also contain buttons like mouse which serve as left and right click

Device that capture image and sometime record videos digitally

Images can be stored in the computer and can be displayed on the screen later.

Device which convert 2D document into digital form.They are present in various
varieties.They may be flatbed or handheld

8. BARCODE
A barcode is a code expressed in the form of black and white lines on the product which
is read by a machine.

Black and white lines indicates number 0 to 9

By reflecting light differently by the surface of lines scanner reads the code.

QR Code is a computer generated pattern, which hold large amount of data.

One can reach access to data when QR code is scanned by QR Scanner.

Graphic tablet is an input device. It uses a special pen that is used to draw images into
the computer with your hand.

It has same function as of pen and paper.

A joy stick is an input device used to control cursor mainly used by gamers. It has push
buttons which can be read by computer.

 It tells the computer in which direction it has to move. It can be moved in many
directions.
 The main purpose of it is to control machines such as trucks, powered
wheelchairs
 More often used to control video games
 easy to use
 can control in 3D

 People may find it difficult to use other than mouse

As the name shows it is associated with touch purposes. It help user to select the
required option by just touching it on the screen.

Monitor is an output device which shows visual representation of information. it is very
important to display data on the screen.

 In some cases multiple screens are present which help the user to increase
productivity

 Monitor emit radiations which are harmful for eyes and

respond to command, it may take long time
2. PRINTER
Printer is an output device used to make a hard copy of information stored in the
computer. It receives output from the computer and transfers it on the paper.

 Fast and reliable

 Colored printing is so much expensive

Headphones are OUTPUT device that can be plugged into a computer, mp3 player or other device to
listen to audio without disturbing anyone. They are plug-and-play devices and
do not require any sort of installation before us

4. COMPUTER SPEAKER
Speakers are one of the most common output devices used in computer systems.
Some of them are designed to work specifically with computers, while others can be
used with any type of sound system.

5. PROJECTOR
A projector is an output device, projects an image on a large surface, such as a white
screen or wall. It is used as an alternative of a monitor or television while showing video
or images to a large group of people

 We can customize size
 Provide theater like experience
 better way of communication
DRAWBACKS OF PROJECTOR
 A dark room is required to use a projector.
 Requires maintenance on intervals.
 Installation Cost can be more as it depends upon
how you get it installed.
 Mostly projectors need a separate audio system.

6. GPS
GPS Stands for "Global Positioning System." GPS is a satellite navigation system which
helps to determine the ground position of an object. This technology was first ever used
by the United States military.

 GPS is extremely easy to navigate as it tells the direction for each turns you take
or you have to reach destiination.
 It costs very low as compare to other navigation system
 It helps to find out exact location of any shop, restaurant etc
 It works in all weather conditions
 It is updated by the Government on regular basis.

 Sometimes the signals are not accurate due to building which act as barrier.
 If you are using GPS on some battery operating device there must be battery
failure

7. SOUND CARD
Sound card is an internal expansion card which provides
input and output of audio signals to and from a computer
under control of different programs of computer.

 They are mostly used for gaming purposes.

9. FILM RECORDER
A film recorder is a graphical output device for transferring images to photographic
film from a video source.

 It decrease the use of digital projectors
 Can also produce master copies of movies

10.BRAILLE READER
Braille reader is an output device that helps blind users to read the document display
on the monitor

Some digital assistants are connected to the computer and play role in Braille
display.

11.PLOTTER
A plotter is An output device that draws images on piece of paper
after receiving a command from users computer. It differs from the
classical printer by using pens to actualize its pictures and thus
produce continuous lines, whereas printers stimulate lines by series
of tiny dots. Multicolor plotters use pens of different colors.

12.SPEECH GENERATING DEVICE


Speech-generating devices produce electronic voice output device that allow the
individual to communicate. These portable electronic devices allow user to select
letters, words, and messages, alone or in combination, to be spoken aloud in a pre-
recorded or computer generated voice.
