Cloud Business Intelligence (BI) applications are
hosted on a virtual network, such as the internet.
They are used to provide organizations access to BI-
related data such as dashboards, KPIs and other
business analytics. Enterprises are increasingly
Introduction to cloud BI turning to cloud-based tools, like Customer
Relationship Management (CRM) applications
(Salesforce), online file collaboration and storage
(Dropbox, Box) and help desk software (UserVoice,
Zendesk). This trend includes business intelligence
tools embracing the agility and accessibility of the
Cloud.
Cloud computing meets business intelligence

• Cloud computing and

business intelligence are an ideal match.
Business intelligence is about delivering
the right information to the right people
at the right time, and cloud computing
provides a lightweight, agile way to access
BI applications.
Advantages of cloud computing
for BI users:

1.Ease of use

2.Deployment speed

3.Scalability and elasticity

4.Accessibility
Disadvantages of cloud computing for BI user.

1. Security Issue

2. Inflexibility

3. Customer support

4.Data transfer cost

Why business intelligence should be on the
cloud?
 Although organisations are embracing business intelligence (BI)
software, they are struggling to make their solutions more robust,
easily accessible, and effective. Cloud-based business intelligence
solutions help organisations, irrespective of their sizes, to grow
their level of competency and value.
 Cloud BI is the merger of cloud computing and ERP (Enterprise
Resource Planning) that delivers simpler data predictive models,
visualisations, multi-source data discovery etc.
Business intelligence in the cloud
other delivery options
Private cloud
• Offers the most control, but also greater
cost
• Design your own solution. manage your
own cloud
• An option if your organization already owns
and maintains a private cloud
hybrid cloud
• Public/private cloud combination
• Leverage the public clouds for “spikes” in
either availability or processing
• More complicated solution to accomplish
load balancing
What are the usage scenarios of cloud computing?

• Big data analytics

• Cloud storage

• Data backup
 Common cloud services models
infrastructure as a service (Iaas)
platform as a service (Paas)
software as a service (Saas)
Cloud Migration Framework
• Our cloud migration framework
implements a migration process
based on the requirements of the
organisation whose BI system will
be moved to cloud premises, the
characteristics of the existing BI
system, and the features and
characteristics of potential cloud
service offerings.
Benefits of Cloud BI
 Nowadays, Cloud BI solutions are gradually gaining popularity
among businesses, as many businesses are realising the benefits of
data analytics.
 The SaaS providers are serving as the primary interfacing to the
business user's community .
 Cloud BI is the concept of delivering BI capabilities as a service.
Conclusions and future directions
 Cloud is an important part of future BI and offers several advantages
in terms of cost efficiency, flexibility and scalability of
implementation, reliability, and enhanced data sharing capabilities.
 Cloud computing comprises three ways of provisioning services.
 Clouds comprise the service provisioning and routing engines that
can effectively sense the loading pattern on the underlying resources.
