The focus, hype and significance of vaccines have never been so much in the past as it is right now. The global vaccines
market is all set to reach about $58.4 billion by 2024 from $41.7 billion in 2019 at a compound annual growth rate of
seven per cent during the period.
The growth of vaccine market is primarily attributed to the increased prevalence of infectious diseases and the
prevailing pandemic, increasing company projects and initiatives to enhance vaccine research and development,
stronger government backing for vaccine development, and the ever-rising focus on and need for immunisation.
Nevertheless, the big capital investments needed for developing vaccines may hold back market growth. Since the
outset of coronavirus pandemic, global pharmaceutical firms have made big leaps towards development of drugs,
therapeutics and vaccines in particular.
Great investments have been made to bring a virtual halt to the sufferings of people. As we move into the third wave of
this pandemic, we need to dig deeper into this phenomenon and see where we can further strengthen the alliances and
expand the scope of partnerships to discover new treatment options.
Research and development in the domain of vaccines represent a bright episode in the rather gloomy serial of this
pandemic. To get the vaccination campaign moving at full speed, we need to work on multiple fronts. Despite the huge
efforts and collaborations aimed at finding and developing effective treatments for hospitalised patients, we still lack
effective options to counter Covid, and this is something which will remain the top priority in 2021.
Not only do we need to invest in the vaccine research, we also need to be on a par in oral drugs for effective
management of symptoms associated with Covid. Our coordination needs to be spot on with local health workers and
we must know the exact number of doses we need each week.
