PEER-TO-PEER NETWORK

•In a peer-to-peer network,

computers on the network are equal,
with each workstation providing access
to resources and data. This is a simple
type of network where computers are
able to communicate with one another
and share what is on or attached to
their computer with other users.
EXAMPLES OF PEER-TO-PEER NETWORK

• Linux

LINUX WORKING IN PEER-TO-PEER
NETWORK
Linux is one of popular version of UNIX operating
System. It is open source as its source code is freely
available. It is free to use. Linux was designed
considering UNIX compatibility. Its functionality
list is quite similar to that of UNIX, but has evolved
to run on a wide variety of hardware from phones to
supercomputers. Every Linux-based OS involves
the Linux kernel—which manages hardware
resources—and a set of software packages that
make up the rest of the operating system.

Peer-to-Peer network operating
system's like Window 7 and 10 are
best for home & small office use.

data, printers, and other localized
resources across a few PCs (Max 10).

ADVANTAGES OF A PEER-TO-PEER
NETWORK
• Less initial expense - No need for a dedicated server.
• Setup - An operating system (such as Windows XP) already in place
may only need to be reconfigured for peer-to-peer operations.
DISADVANTAGES OF A PEER-TO-PEER
NETWORK
• Decentralized - No central repository for files and applications.
• Security - Does not provide the security available on a client/server
network.
