 Major Classification rules:

The basis of Major classification are the patterns of

two thumbs.
Right thumb is the numerator and left thumb the
denominator.
If loop appears on thumb it will interpret
whether (S) small,(M)medium, (L) large
using the standard table.
Left thumb governs the symbol of the right
thumb
 Note: Left thumb governs the symbol of the right thumb

If whorl (W,C,D,X) appears on thumb, the major
division reflects the whorl tracing just as the sub –
secondary does. The major division table interprets
as (I) inner, (O) outer, (M) meeting

3 or more ridges above the right delta = (I)

3 or more ridges below the right delta = (O)
zero, 1 or 2 ridges (below or above) the right delta =
(M)
MD = ______ MD =________
In MD, if the pattern is whorl or arch, use the rule in
SSC
 If the RT is whorl, and the LT is loop, apply the rule
in SSC for the RT and apply the rule in MD for the
LT
If the LT is whorl, and the RT is loop, apply the rule
in SSC for the LT and apply the rule in MD for the
RT
