Non-Destructive Test in

Concrete Cracks

Why does concrete cracks?
Cracking is usually the first
sign of distress in concrete

Cracks occur when the force

exceeds its maximum tensile
strength
How to evaluate the cracks in concrete?
Close-up inspection and cracks width
measurement
Close-up visual inspection are
needed to identify the cracks
width and depth.

Crack widths can easily be

measured using a simple
crack width ruler.
Cracks depth measurement
Crack depths can be estimated
using Non-Destructive test called
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) to
study the structural integrity and
durability of the concrete.
Ultrasonic pulse velocity method
consists of measuring the time of
travel of an ultrasonic pulse,
passing through the concrete to be
tested.
Schmidt Hammer Test

Schmidt hammer test is used to

identify weak spots in a
concrete element.
It can also be used to get an
estimate of the compressive
strength if a reliable correlation
between compression test and
rebound number is established.
