SPIDERS AND

THEIR KIN
Within the arthropods, spiders occupy a
taxonomic group called the arachnids, a
group comprising a diverse array of
other creatures including mites, ticks
and scorpions. The horseshoe crab is
closely related as well. Arachnids have
two part body and four legs.
Most spiders produce venom and inject it
into their prey through one pair of
mouthparts, called the chelicerae, which act
like fangs. The other pair of mouthparts,
the pedipalps help to sense their prey. Some
spiders build webs to trap their prey while
others chase after their prey.
