TANGENT AND SECANTS OF A CIRCLE

Tangent – is a line which is coplanar with

the circle and intersects it in
at most one point.
Point of tangency_ the point where the
tangent intersects
the circle.
Secant – is a line that intersects a circle at
exactly two points and contains a
chord of a circle
SECANTS AND TANGENT SEGMENTS

 Tangent Segment- is a point of a tangent line

 between the point of contact
 and a point outside the circle.
 Secant Segment- is the point of a secant line
 that joins a point outside the circle
 to the farther intersection point of
 the secant and the circle.
 External secant segment – is a part of the secant
 segment that outside the circle
SECTOR OF THE CIRCLE
 It is the region bounded by an arc of the circle
and the 2 radii to the endpoints of the circle.
 The region bounded by <BCA is the sector of
circle.C
 Segment of the circle- is the region bounded by
an arc and the segment of a circle
 SW: In cirle M, Identify The name of the ff:
 A. tangent line
 B. secant line
 C. External secant segment
 D. tangent segment
 Sector of the circle – the region bounded by <JMA is
the sector of circle M
 6. Segment of the circle = the region bounded by JA
is the segment circle M.
