OBJECTIVES
• Identify the History of street dance
• Define the Basic terminologies of Street dance
• Distinguish the genre of Street dance to other genres
STREET DANCE
A street dance is a dance style that evolved outside dance studios in
any available open space. This includes streets, dance parties,
block parties, parks, school yards, raves, and nightclubs due to the
fact that the African American and Latino people who created the
style in the late 1960's and early 1970's were not accepted into
dance studios because of their race. Examples of street dance include
b-boying (or breakdancing), which originated in New York City.
Street dance is an umbrella term for a large number of social dance
styles. Social dance styles have many accompanying steps and
foundations, created organically from a culture, a moment in time, a
way of life, influenced by natural social interaction.
Philippine dance has played a tremendous role in Filipino culture.
From one of the oldest dated dances called the Tinikling, to other
folkloric dances such as the Pandanggo, Cariñosa, and Subli, and
even to more modern-day dances like the ballet, it is no doubt that
dance in the Philippine setting has integrated itself in society over the
course of many years and is significantly imbedded in culture
DIFFERENT TYPES OF STREET DANCE
1.  Break dance - acrobatic style of street dance. It is called break
dance because it was originally danced to the ‘break’ in a piece of
music.
2. Popping and locking – Popping was created by Sam Solomon in
Fresno, California and performed by his crew the Electric Boogaloos.
A dance technique of quickly contracts and relaxes their muscles to
create a jerking effect in the dancer’s body. In locking a dancer holds
their positions longer, a locker's dancing is characterized by
consistently locking in place and after a quick pause moving again to
make it look really effective and interesting.
3. Hip hop – a style of street dance performed to hip-hop music. More
than 30 years old, hip-hop dance became widely known after the
first professional breaking, locking, and popping crews formed in the
1970s.
4. Maskara – Bacolod, Negros Occidental. A colorful celebration about
“smiles” after a boat tragedy. Slowly, religious undertones have also
been incorporated into many of its aspects.
5. Panglay - sa Agong is a dance that portrays two warriors who try to
gain the attention of a young woman. By banging on gongs, it was
the way they showed their courage and skills.

• Distinguish the guidelines of the law of R.A 10586
WHAT IS ALCOHOL
ADDICTION?
•Alcohol addiction (alcoholism) is a physical or mental dependence
on alcohol. Alcohol addiction can lead to health and social
problems, and difficulty maintaining responsibilities. Symptoms of
alcohol addiction include drinking alone, becoming violent when
drinking, missing work or school, hiding alcohol use, and shaking
after periods of not drinking.
A common treatment for alcohol addiction is abstinence. There are
support programs available for long-term treatment. Medications
can also be used to maintain abstinence or ease withdrawal
symptoms
•Drinking is so common in many cultures and the effects vary so
widely from person to person, it’s not always easy to figure out if
you have a drinking problem. But if you consume alcohol to cope
with difficulties or to avoid feeling bad, you’re in potentially
dangerous territory.
•Effects of alcoholism and alcohol abuse

• Alcoholism and alcohol abuse can affect all aspects of your life. Long-term alcohol use can cause serious health
complications, affecting virtually every organ in your body, including your brain.
•Risk factors for drinking problems and alcoholism

• Risk factors for developing problems with alcohol arise from many interconnected factors, including your
genetics, how you were raised, your social environment, and your emotional health.
