 Explain the different brush tool

 Discuss the different Paint Bucket tool

The Brush Tool

 It is used to paint an image using the current


foreground color.
 The brush tool offers different options in
customizing the behavior of the brush.
 These options are used to set the size,
opacity, hardness, and style of the brush.

Steps in using Brush Tool to
Create a Sketch
1. Create a new blank image with white background.
2. Create a new blank layer.
3. Click the brush tool in the tools palette.
4. In the tool option bar, click the Brush preset picker
and select the Hard Round 5 pixels brush preset.
5. Set the opacity to 50%.
6. Start sketching on the new blank layer. If you commit
a mistake click the Eraser tool in the tools palette and
stroke on the erroneous portion of the sketch. Click
the Brush tool again to continue sketching.

Path

 A path is a collection of one or more straight


or curve segments linked by anchor points.
 A path can be filled with solid color or
gradient, applied with strokes, or converted
into a selection.
 Using a path, you can create a vector image
(pixel independent image).
 You can create a path using the Pen tool
( ).

Creating a Straight Line
Path
1. Click the pen tool in the tools palette.
2. In the tool option bar, select the paths option.
3. In the canvass area, position the pen tool where you
want to start drawing the straight line and then click
to define the first anchor point.
4. Move (do not drag) the mouse pointer where you
want to define the second anchor point then click to
draw the straight line segment.
5. Continue clicking on the areas where you want to
define anchor points and draw straight line segments.

Creating a Curve Line Path
1. Click the pen tool in the tools palette.
2. In the tool option bar, select the paths option.
3. In the canvass area, position the pen tool where you want
to start drawing the curve line and then click, hold, and
drag the mouse to the direction where you want to set the
slope of the curve segment then release the mouse button.
4. Position the mouse pointer where you want to end the
curve segment, then click and drag it to the opposite
direction of the previous direction line to create a C-shape
curve or drag it to the same direction of the previous
direction line to create an S-shape curve.

5. Continue clicking and dragging on the area where
you want to define anchor points and draw curve
line segments.
6. To close the path, position the mouse pointer to
the first anchor point. Notice that a small circle
appears beside the pen tool pointer when you
positioned the mouse pointer at the first anchor
point. Click or click and drag to close the path.

1. Click the pen tool in the tools palette.
2. In the tool option bar, select the paths option.
3. Create a straight line segment by clicking the first anchor
point and clicking the second anchor point.
4. To create a curve line segment after the straight line
segment, point the pen tool pointer at the end anchor point.
You must notice a slash symbol beside the pen tool pointer.
Click and drag the anchor point to the direction where you
want to set the slope of the curve segment then release the
mouse button to set the direction point.
5. Move the pen tool pointer where you want to place the next
anchor point. Click and drag to create a curve segment.

6. To create a straight line segment or another curve


segment with the same slope, you need to convert the
smooth point of the curve segment into a corner point.
To convert the smooth point to a corner point, move
the pen tool pointer to the direction point and press the
[Alt] key ([Option] key on Mac). Notice that the pen tool
pointer is changed to the Convert point tool pointer.
7. Click and drag the direction line to the direction where
you want the next segment to appear.
8. Click or click and drag to create the new segment.

Modifying the Path

 You can modify the path using the following


tools:
– Direct Selection Tool -- used to select and
move segments and anchor points.
– Path Selection Tool – used to move a path.
Applying Stroke to the Path

1. Usually, a stroke is applied to a path based on the


brush tool settings. Select the brush tool and set the
size, style, hardness, opacity, and foreground color.
2. Select the path tool then right-click on the canvas.
On the popup menu, select the Stroke Path option to
display the Stroke Path dialog box. Ensure that the
Brush option is selected.
3. Notice that the stroke is applied along the path and
the path is still visible. To clear the path, press the
Delete key until the all path is cleared.
Applying fill to the Closed
Path
1. Ensure that the path tool is selected. Right-click on
the canvas area and then select the Fill Path option
from the popup menu.
2. From the Use option of the Fill Path dialog box,
select how you want to fill the path with color. You
can fill the path using foreground color,
background color, or you can select a color from
the Choose a color dialog box.
3. Click OK to apply fill base using the selected color.
4. To clear the path, press the Delete key.
Converting Path into
Selection
1. Draw a path around the edges of the object that
you want to select.
2. After closing the path, right-click the canvas area
and then select Make Selection from the popup
menu.
3. In the Make Selection dialog box, supply the
feather value if you want to soften the edges.
4. Click the OK button to convert the path into a
selection based on the options selected from the
Make Selection dialog box.
The Paint Bucket Tool

 Used to fill an image or a selected area in the


image with a single color or pattern.
 To apply color to an image using this tool, select it
on the tools palette and click on the area to be
filled with color.
 By default it applies the current foreground color,
but you have an option to apply a pattern instead
of color.

Using the Paint Bucket Tool

1. Select the Paint Bucket tool from the tools palette.


2. Select options from the tool option bar.
3. If you will fill the image with the foreground color,
select the foreground color from the swatches
palette or click the set to foreground color icon in
the tools palette.
4. Click on the area of the image that you want to fill
with color or pattern.
